I like the idea with a somewhat better built in camera, as I really dislike the "utility belt" approach, where you are loaded with all sorts of equipment.

I like a mobile phone with a good radio, a decent camera and a calendar/reminder application built in. Then I don't need to bring a phone, a radio, a camera and a calendar around wherever I go.

But 3MP camera phones, regardless of their MPness, will never produce better shots than 3MP digicams.

you know people always say that. They ask, "why do we need a 1MP" camera.
We dont need anything, there are two reasons for it being good for the market.
1st, people who can't afford to buy both a digital camera and a mobile phone can have an option, 2nd yesterday it was a VGA, today its a 1mp, tomorrow it's a 3 mp. Soon enough we wont have the need for a digital camera itself.

We are all striving to get the all in one device.

1mp is great for a user is he/she wants to send images as mentioned, and also is great to view pics on the phone itself! Smooth quality is great.

Im all for mobiles with better cameras, the more megapix the better!!!

Why dont they just equip cameras with bluetooth and that way you can take high-res pictures and also send they via bluetooth to your GSM/3G phone and then to mail???

Sony have had a couple of cameras capable of bluetooth, the first was the FX77 if I remember correctly, and they support the BIP (Basic Image Profile) in which the two devices negotiate the best resolution to transfer the image. T610 was the first to support BIP, again, if I remember correctly (too tired to look it up!)

My k700i takes pictures of almost as good quality as my 1.3mp digi cam that came free with my pc.. So a good phone cam will be better than a cheap digi cam, especially when they are both on the same resolution

It has actually solved a little argument for me - I was wondering whether to take a stills camera with me or my camcorder on holiday with me - but I can probably use my k700 (I usually take my phone anyway) and use that for still photos, as the quality should be good enough, especially for photograph-sized prints, and take the camcorder too! I didn't want to be carting both a normal digi or film camera round with me, along with a fairly large and old camcorder as well.

Mobile phone with tiny lense and limited optical space never be as good as real camera. Current megapixel phones can't even proper focus. They don't have any moving part that neccessary for focusing. (If it has, it is likely to break first time you drop it)

The same thing goes for small digital camera. limited depth from lenses to CCD prevent ability to use longer focal length (and larger) lense. Tiny 6MP camera gennerally can't compare with digital SLR camera with the same resolution.
