I've finally sorted out my external antenna.
The external antenna connector HCE-12 will only connect to the K700i through the in car holder HCH-38. Several people here told me this was the case but I reinvented the wheel and found they are right.
Once you've donated even more money to SE and bought these items they work like a dream. I've connected a small window mounted antenna and I've gone from virtually no signal to a consistent 3 bars plus GPRS.
The in car holder is actually quite neat and if you attach the bracket to the rear it sits on a desk at quite a useful angle. The in car holder will also connect to my desktop synch unit so it's all fairly easy.
It may not work for you but I'm happy.
BTW - SE helpdesk weren't much help at all.
