@amnesia

Wise words, but I stand by my earlier comments. Waiting is fine if one doesn't need the product right away, of course there is nothing to be gained from waiting if one can buy a product that can do everything one needs it to do just now. I suspect that the reason the chap in question is considering waiting for the P1000 is that he is more concerned with having the latest gadget rather than choosing a smartphone based on a need for one. The problem with that sort of situation is that, as Vlamm and I said earlier, one will be waiting forver as technology moves so quickly that any gadget is rarely at the cutting edge for more than a brief period of time.

I think I do have a good answer to this problem... just buy every one that comes out much to my wifes displeasure!

To wait for a P1000 is the best thing to do. IMO it's the smart thing to do.

Well I think the p1000 will be an upgrade to the existing P models. No matter what way you look at it

I've been waiting for the s700. Because i want the camera on it. Nothing else. Like masseur said: a very specific reason to wait fro something.

The P1000 is still very illusive at this time. We don't know what it will have to offer feature wise.
But we do know that it will be an upgraded version of the current smart phone range.

And forever waiting for the next upgraded version or next model just because the manufacturer will eventually release a model that will ahve better features..... would probably leave us all with our very first phones till the day we die... don't you think?

having sold my P800, i'm planning to get a P910 as it meets all my needs, save one. the only other thing i would want in it is wifi.

however, someone correct me if i'm wrong, but my understanding is that so far, wifi has proven to be a battery hog. therefore, if that is true, i would expect that either it would be a while until it is made more energy efficient, or if released early, you would have a phone that has to be recharged everyday or so.

on that basis, the P910 has my vote.

I will upgrade my P900 when a suitable replacement is released. I'm not counting the days until the P1000 is released, but when it is I will decide whether or not to buy it.

Cool - very close to my way of thinking as well!

@senninha

I have a Clie TH55 which has BT & WiFi. Sony have been very clever about process speed management and therefore even with a display size of 480*320 I get good battery life. The theoretical speed benefits of WiFi over 3G may not present themselves as the main bottle neck I think is display rendering and CPU performance. Also experience with a 3G Moto A920 tells me 3G will eat batteries as well. So WiFi and 3G will both pose a difficult challenge to SE engineers (but as I said for WiFi Sony seem to have some answers)

for sure the p1000 will just be an upgrade of the p910
but compared to the p800 (which he has) it'll be a MAJOR upgrade compared to a p910.

It'll probably have a scratch resistant screen, better clarity, perhaps more pixels, a 2 mp camera (which if it was removable would be great for offices that dont allow camera), better battery life, better bluetooth range, wifi, perhaps slimmer, more ram, more external memory with it, perhaps a speaker docking station, a few devices are incorporating finger print scanning (perhaps another security measure), and finally a better processor, (perhaps REALLY a dual processor this time)

One of the MAIN things that I want from it though, is the ability to lock folder within the phone.

@jah

thanks, very useful to know. i guess that ends it. i'll be getting the P910.

and if the P1000 comes out soon after and successfully addresses the battery issues, then i shall take masseur's advice and just buy every damned P-phone that comes along!!!
