I was influenced by TheRealSpawn's message as the man obviously did a lot of thinking on the subject. So, he made me think a lot about him and people like him...and of course, I, too, have something to say:
He obviously used a lot of energy for thinking and writting about this issue, and wrote one quite long and "full-harted" post. So, something must've gone terribly wrong in a life of this man, as he created the whole new world of explainations and imagination about such a small problem like being or not being able to turn off the shutter button! Maybe his obvious grief and pain come from a reason that his kid (if she is 18yo for example, she is still HIS CHILD, am I right?) has a rich s*xual life and he is not a part of it as he desperately wanna be part of it (just a thought)! Edip's complex would still be present, even at that age!
Man, your theory falls on two facts: first thing - not being able to turn it off was, believe it or not, JUST A BUG! SE fixed that with R2L and now YOU ARE able to take photos unnoticed! Second thing - believe me, mate, (but I think you already know that), we, teenage girl lovers, find much much much hotter video clips of, for example, nice girl in short skirt or tight pants crossing a street than a still image of that! As far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong, taking a video doesn't make any noise...so, in situation with "no R2L", I'd just go for a
video, and would make my pleasure even greater! This proves that whole your story is just your imagination, and has not a bit to do with reality!
Man, if you are having problems regarding your kid's or your girlfriend's, or whoever's s*x life that bypasses you, maybe you should consider buying a clothes for her that covers everything, every part of her body, so someone could only see her eyes, and let her go on a street dressed only that way. Or maybe, tigh her up with a chain for a radiator - that way she wouldn't be able even to go out on a street...and she would be ONLY YOURS!

And why did you create an account to say that, to scared to use your usual account to talk rubbish? Spawn got it spot on, r2l is UNBRANDED fw. It's individual operators in specific counties who are required by law to have it for pretty much the season spawn stated. To stop you stalking females in the street and sending stuff to phonebin.

The camera sound is a joke.
I don't have a regular digital camera, so I would like to take the phone to the tennis to take photos. Of course the camera makes a very loud sound, and with the "quiet please" rules at tennis that can't be done.
Plenty of other places object to such a load noice being made. Was told at a restaurant the other day when I took a photo of my group to turn the noise off if I wanted to take photos as it was annoying other diners. Well I can't turn it off can I?
And the morons saying it stops perverts is an idiot. If you really want to stop the noise you can simply open the phone up and take the speaker out. But that prevents you from using it as a phone. The perverts will be using it as a camera only, so they'll be able to do it anyway.

I think its a terrible sound.
As much as I understand where Realspawn is coming from i really dont think that's justification why we should be forced into hearing the weird slap noise whenever we take a photo.
If there are countries which have drawn up legislation that all camera phones have to have the camera noise, i dont have a problem with that. I respect their rule of law... I'll turn mine on when I'm travelling and i would expect it to be a permanent fixture if i purchase a phone from there... but as i live in a country that doesn't have that particular legislation i expect to have that choice.
Besides, i dont think that having the loud snapshot noise is really going to deter people from taking pictures. If someone sees a shot, they'll take it. In places where taking a photo is completely inappropriate then it should be banned - period. Ban it from lockers and changerooms. Ban it at work if they are so concerned with espionage. Having a shuttersound is just a weak pissy attempt in curbing the activitiy. Its not a preventative measure, its just to tell you (and maybe the people around you) that you have taken the picture. TAKEN the picture... woops too late. The prick has already taken your picture and fled off. What are you going to do?
Actually come to think of it - if someone takes a picture of me when i am out in public, is that an infringment of my privacy? i dont think it is. I guess it is the same as how the paparazzi annoy the hell out of the famous people and get away with it. It might be rude and annoying, but i think i would have the right to take a picture of whoever i want in public (I dont do that btw). If i catch a couple of random people in the background of a group shot, i do not have to issue out a rainforest of legal documents giving me their consent to use the photos in my foto album.
If society has a problem with that, then they should urge for legislation to be drawn up banning the use for camera phones, cameras, or any other devices that may construct a visual representation of persons. They should NOT have a law that partially restricts people from doing the deed. If legislation is drawn to make camera noise mandatory for the reason of curbing unwanted and non-consensual pictures, people who are determined enough in taking pictures will get themselves cameras with telephoto lens etc.
Umm... err... i can't believe i have rambled for so long. Can you tell that i am procrastinating with my studies?
End note: Camera noise. It sucks.

I can agree to many of the views and opinions raised in this thread - except for The35yo's who is just some lamer that didnt read a single word of my post right.
Many seems to overlook that S//E make different regional firmwares and in some shuttersound can be turned off and in others it cannot - S//E do not do this specifically to annoy their customers - they do it to apply to regional rules and ethics. Its more a political/ethical issue - therefore yelling at S//E doesnt make much sence. If one dont like this they should go into politics and try to influence the regional opinions instead. Some seems to think that the shuttersound issue is done by S//E only to annoy them - I only pointed out some of the reasons why it is done and some situations where it could make sence. There are situations where we have to accept regulations in order to respect some higher purpose, like the respect of other human beings - and other situations where the same regulations dont make sence.
The35yo also seems to think that I personally want it to be this way - and then attacks me personally as if it was me that imposed this "feature" on everyone - this is completely idiotic and way out of line. Furthermore the point of my arguments are completely missed.
I have no personal agenda in this area at all - I dont really care that much if it can be turned off or not. There are times where I wish it could be turned off and other times where I am glad it cant be turned off. To me personally the respect for the individual human rights goes above anything - its a human right not to be treated wrong, its not a human right to be able to turn of shutter sound. If regulation on shuttersound can prevent even one single person from being treated wrong in this world - then Ill gladly put aside my own needs to turn off shuttersound and simply accept this regulation and get on with my life. Simple as that.
I totally agree that the shuttersound sounds silly
I totally agree that it can be annoying at times when it cannot be turned off.
I can even agree that the reasons for not being able to turn it off - can be silly sometimes, because there are so many ways to overcome them and so many situations where its stupid etc. but many rules and ethics are not based on common sence - but on feelings. All regulations have this problem - in some situations they make sence, in others they dont - no regulation is perfect under all conditions
when it really comes down to it - the general point - like the very first poster Greenbread also tried to make is:
This is just how it is - come to terms with the fact that it has a sound and get over it !
Its isnt that big a deal - its only a small annoyment - nothing else.
Some react as if its the end of the world. Its not. Get over it and get on with life - its a bright sunny day outside (somewhere in the world) get out and enjoy it instead of complaining about shuttersound. We can find it annoying - but try to put it in the right perspective - it really isnt the end of the world. And it gets really boring to read the 2341'th post where someone again starts a thread screaming about the shuttersound as if his whole world collapses.
Simply try to accept the fact that shutter sound in some regions cannot be turned off - and find other ways to solve your picturemaking problem. Bring a real camera if you are going somewhere where you know you would like to take pictures and expect the shuttersound to be a problem. etc. etc.
#morbodestroys - yes camerasound do suck

#morbodestroys - hehehehe

- youre absolutely right - amazing how one can suddenly find one self writing that much on a rather small issue - lol
PS: Btw - its still possible on all firmwares to "turn if off" - by making a call and turn on camera while in the call.
