Well I been chatting to copperfield and I reckon what someone has done is get the phone on a contract or upgraded and then sold it onto this shop to get the cash, waited a bit then reported it stolen and probably got a new one on insurance. so theyve now got a load of cash and a new phone.

You should be able to take it back even though you no longer have the receipt
I presume with someone like cash generator that they keep records of the IMEI along with the persons name and address in the event of something like this happening (also in case items are found out to be stolen) its just a matter of looking them up
The shop is at fault not you so i would think that if you go there with the phone they would be quite quick and helpful in resolving your problem as long as you are polite,calm and civil while explaining your situation

yeah i hope so it wasnt actually cash generator it is a shop called "cex" were you can trade in ps2 games, phones dvds etc for cash or store credit
i took my p900 there because i wanted a smaller phone - stupid i know so please dont anyway ask my y i did it
they offered a pathetic £180 cash or £250 store credit so i took the k700i
i do also remember that when i took my p900 it was all checked and they scanned the imei so i suppose they do that with all phones and it may be possible to trace whoever did this
im getting a 7610 on contract tomorrow so that has kind of cheered me up a bit
hopefully ill get to the shop sometime today or saturday - so ill post here when i have some news

Again I can check your local area for cell problems, are u in the middle of nowhere or a town/city?
In theory GSM supports this, but the UK networks don't, you can't use other networks for emergency calls.

Is it just O2 that allow that message to appear then? I've never seen it appear on any of my other SE mobiles on other networks. Is this feature actually supported by O2?

Every Ericsson handset I've seen has this, on the older phones it was SOS calls only for the smaller displays, always shown when out of their own network coverage. No UK network allows a handset without one of their sims to access their network for emergency calls, it's not just O2.
Since when have you been able to make emergency calls on another network? This must have changed recently.

well for example with my T610 on orange, when I have no orange signal it reverts to the SOS calls only state, there are bars in the signal indicator, where are these coming from if not orange?
also ive just taken the sim out of the T610 and turned it on. theres a signal showing (no gprs though) and if u type in 999 or whatever it says SOS call above it.
