Well,

I have a Palm Tungsten C and I will never go back to MS PPC. I have had a P800, and a P900 and while they were okay, I feel that Palm suits my needs perfectly. I am quite happy the way it works with my Mac. As for your decision not to upgrade, I can only say that the newer apps are designed for OS X 10.3.x and higher. My phones and Palm sync perfectly with iSync. No problems at all.

Quite the opposite for me. As a long-time Palm user, I will never go back from my P900 to a Palm powered device. The reason is simple: Palm OS is far too unstable. If one app crashes, it brings down the whole operating system. It's not OK.

Symbian is not much better which leads us to the "one OS does not fit all" paradim. I went from Pocket PC to Symbian to Palm and am quite happy. Is Palm the best? In my opinion, is it better than the others for my needs? Yes. One other thing is that here in this forum, quite many to most tend to push their phones or demands of their phones beyond what they we specified to do. There is no perfect phone, and in most cases never will be. Picking a phone is subjective in my opinion. You pays your money, you takes your chances.

Welp dudes..... I just got my P800. I know I was after a P900 but to be honest for a savings of 1k Malaysian dollars I think I can put up with the jellybaby styling of the P800 and the less-sharp screen.

It has the organiser and address book that I need and it'll sync into the iApps that I need.

I'll be happy now I think. Now to go buy a BlueTooth adapter for my iBook and upgrade the OS.

All answers (as well as a full list of iApp compatible phones) are to be found at http://www.apple.com/isync/devices.html

And it says so right there... OSX 10.3.5 recommended- which isn't to say I won't give Jaguar a go first.

In the meantime I got my first question- how do I import the contacts already stored on my mobile SIM card into the address book of the P800? And how do I access the SIM card from the phone's desktop?

Cheers lads..... I'll be back with ever more questions as I go on. This is brilliant- I feel the weight of the Treo's long reign of terror finally off my shoulders.

Just a question. Why do you not want to upgrade to Panther. I have not read anything that would preclude upgrading to a BETTER version of an already great operating system. As you can see, everywhere it says 10.3.x recommended, but you still insist on 10.2.x. Please tell me what makes 10.2.x better than 10.3.x? When Tiger comes out, I will run now walk to my nearest Apple shop and upgrade ASAP.

Hehehe dude.....

I don't insist on staying with Jaguar for no reason- upgrading to Panther will cost money and so long as Jaguar fulfils my every need there's no reason to upgrade. I've never been one for upgrading merely for the sake of it. Taken to extremes here I am running a 3 year old Mac on an 18 month old OS.

O course if 10.3.5 is REQUIRED to sync with my lovely new P800 then that will be reason enough to upgrade. If I find syncing will still work on 10.2.8 you'll see Jaguar soldiering on on my beloved iBook.

Anyway the reason I advise not jumping into a new release of anything as soon as it hits the shelves is that they are a lil buggy and not an awful lot of help is available online. Cast your mind back to the launches of Puma, 10.1 and Jaguar itself. Panther didn't get off cleanly either as I remember. Sure... Apple OS' fare better than Microsoft's at launch but they're still not perfect. Give it a couple months is my advice.

Now... I need a lil more P800 adivce- how do I hard-reset the phone? It came with some things (ringtones etc) installed as well as Chinese language and a few other things. I want to wipe everything off but whenever I try "Master Reset" it asks for a lock code which I don't have. The shop I got it from is on the other side of town and if you knew Kuala Lumpur, this is not something to be ventured lightly.

The manual isn't awfully helpful saying the lock code isn't set when you buy the phone but obviously it was set on mine. Is there any workaround?

Cheers

Just a quick answer. Try "0000" as the unlock code. or "00000". Not sure but one fo the two should work. I will write more later.

I just got a p900 last week and had some issues using isync (the phone didn't show up, even though it was paired). http://homepage.mac.com/jasonlcarlton/share/FileSharing14.html is the workaround (I'm using 10.3.6) in case you should encounter such a problem. Address Book syncs right from the app if you want to do it that way, but you need isync for ical. Just a bit of advice. And as others have posted, I can't use the usb cable on my G5 unless I'm using virtual pc.

GET A MAC!!!
