I wanted to buy a sharp a year ago but not the branded stuff was the one that put me off but the inability to send the pictures to pc. Now i heard there's anotha problem with the impossibility to unlock data settings.

Where I live I can't use vodaphone cause the reception
is crap. So if a phone is limited to Vodaphone, nomatter
how good the phone is otherwise I can't use it.
I'm sure there are other ppl in the same situation where Vodaphone simply ain't an option.
To conclude. It sucks if manufacturers releases phones with certain service providers and don't give the option
to buy the phone w/o contract.

I agree with @bart here . . . But if this was the case, then SE has no similarity with that of Nokia then - 'money/profit-oriented' and not 'after sales-oriented' !

Sorry if someone mentioned it before I didn't in through all the posts from K700... I think in future we will see much more joint ventures between mobile companies and network operators. 3G is not something that will make a big bum soon. It is not killer service like SMS is. And It will be a long time till/if it ever become... Look at the GPRS, MMS etc. So to make it succesful it will be hard and long process... IMHO. And I don't actually mind Vodafone branding as long as prices are relatively OK. TC, Vee This message was posted from a K700i

@bobafett - Yeah . . . skin the buying public mooore . . . I made a wrong reply with my last mate, what I mean is that SE has no 'difference' with that of Nokia after all, if they are more on the 'profit-oriented' based side type of - company ! Proliferation . . .

1/ undoubedly the best fones are conceptualized by the cell fone maker itself.

2/ that concept, before any actual prototype exists, is brought to the network provider that that cell phone maker estimates will make the most money for it.

3/ the cell fone maker gauges the interest of the network company it brought the concept to. advance discussions between the maker and the network are built around market size, estimated new switchers, new services the network wishes to offer, and finally, and most important, dscussions come to center around how much money the network is willing to front for development of the handset, and,or, to what extent the network is willing to guarantee minimums for cell fones sold. all this ends in having a target launch date; defined cell fone capablities: well planned network testing phase on the target network; and finally, the agreed upon target cost and price for the handset.

4/ after launch, if sales dont go well, the fone needs to stay around extra long in the network's offering due to its commitment to the hand set maker to sell a certiain minimum. or, sometimes the two companies agree to a slight upward mod to the fone and call it a different model number. if it goes well, there is tremendous incentive and momemtum to develop more fones together.

in general, being a huge mac (apple) fanatic myself, i can appreciate the viewpoint of seeing the competition as a huge monolith as i see windoze as the evil empire. however, i have never seen vodafone as that. what you want is connectivity and scale and giving to developers of fone hardware and software some sort of chance to survive, and in order to do survive they need a base. they need standards and more than anything else right now, they need a network that can offer enough subcribers to give them scale. to survive.

well, bobafett you go and buy it and write a decent review. All the people that have them on this forum, i think i have found 2 ppl, have not bothered with writing any reviews!
