I just hope mobile phone manufacturers and network providers should support in aggressive research and development for 3G. Just look at Japan's i-mode development. Wasn't i-mode classified as 2.5G?

Ericsson was in trouble, as the article explains and if you search other news items you would see that things were in such as way, 1000's of people were being made redundant - my older brother being one of them
however, now they are back in profit and looking to a bright future. They still are the No1 network on the planet.
It is difficult to imagine what handsets Ericsson would be making today.
It is not just Sony that Ericsson has had to partner up with either. They have other partners that they have had to reach out to. For me Sony and Ericsson are two pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly.

Sorry mate. I wasn't referring to Handset makers or operators, I was referring to Networks.
The Ericsson network provides telecommnications services to 1.6 Billion customers via network operators. See here..

Just to remind you that they removed advanced status info with very accurate standby and talk times

Does Ericsson put it's name to any other handsets other than SE 's?
If Ericsson hadn't paired off with another manufacturer then there would be almost no public face for Ericsson for the consumer, then how would it have been possible to get hold of a handset made by Ericsson at all?
Or maybe you would have liked to have seen Ericssons' handset business turned over to Nokia or Siemens or Samsung?

Hypotheticaly speaking it is an interesting thought that SE could join with anothe rmanufacturer, perhaps another struggling company might want to join the SE alliance.
