Not with Voda but I used the same process to get rid of my T-Mob one.... and all works fine.

So you just changed the name of the homescreen, installed then uninstalled the Desktop application and goodbye nasty promo from your network provider?

Yeah...well sort of. I quite like the SE version of the desktop so I've not uninstalled it.... yet.

OK @MrsHarris, then you just changed the name of the homestart file and the next time you switched on, you got some standard SE start up screen instead.
Is that all there is to it?
The reason I ask is that I use an apple mac so the PC sync and file manager can only work using Virtual PC which is veeeeeerrry slow - trying to get the file manager to work could take me an hour or two, so if it isn't likely to work, I don't want to start - unless you know of a different way of getting into the system files (maybe directly on the phone through some freeware/trial file management software?)
Cheers

I used Sman to rename the homestart file and had no problems at all. Obviously I installed the SE Desktop too as in this thread.

@MrsHarris: I know I'm appearing really dumb but .... having read your thoughts on the matter, I downloaded and installed Sman to change the name of the homestart file ...
I can see c:/System/ folder but there is no autostart folder in there ... I can see apps, bif etc and a whole host of other directories, but not that one.
Or rather, the only time an autostart folder appears is if I install the SE Desktop app. When I uninstall it, the folder disappears!
Any thoughts, advice gratefully received.

@Graeme - This is odd, maybe Voda have done it a different way or maybe you're talking about something different.
I've been talking about the homescreen (the default screen which is show if I open the flip for example), is this what you're talking about? If so and you're not seeing this folder or file then there prob needs to be more investigating to see how Voda have done it. If not then can you clarify what you're talking about.
Thanks,
Mrs H

Aah, that's not what I was talking about!
I thought you guys were talking about the start up and shut down movie which on my Voda network phone is all red and Vodafone-ish. And I don't like it.
The screen you are talking about is not a problem for me!
Oops.
Sorry to have wasted your time. Humble apologies.

@ grahamaustin
You need to get you P910 generic flashed by CPW to remove the startup/shutdowm screens.
