I have to correct some of niji statements 'cause its a bit misleading

It is not correct. The regular memory stick (just 'memory stick') only support up to 128 mb. Above that you have to use PRO (either in long or Duo physical form).

Nice explanation. But the reason why PRO created at the very first time is because Sony engineers stupidly realize that their memory stick file system cannot 'see' anything larger than 128 mb, even if the chip is capable of storing it. Something is wrong with the memory address algorithim and the memory bus.
They have to create something that can meet competition. First they create Memory Stick SELECT. It is a workaround to compensate the 128 mb limited capacity of memory stick. MS SELECT can increase the capacity up to 256 mb but you cannot use all at the same time. It is actually 2 X 128 mb. Same packed memory divided into two areas. Think of it like cassette tape. If one side is full you have to change to another side, this is done by selecting some knob under the memory stick.
Memory stick SELECT is an evidence that Sony engineers failed to further developed the MS file system. Although the chip can be doubled, but the file system cannot. So you have to 'SELECT'.
Later on, they realize that MS File System is so flawed with that max 128 mb memory address limitation that nothing can be done about. They gave up to further repair it and they create a new file system, a new algorithm that can read anything larger than 128 mb. PRO is born. The new file system is a major overhaul with new methods and algorithm which make them UNCOMPATIBLE with regular-flawed-and-old memory stick file system.
So you cannot use MS PRO (either in long or Duo physical form) at the device that can only 'read' (actually 'being ordered to read') regular Memory Stick (in long or Duo physical form). Some software upgrade might change this condition but i dont think Sony will allow such.
Anything Niji explained about PRO is the nice description about the development of PRO file system, but not the real reason why PRO is created.

OK. First Memory Stick, then came PRO. And now there is HIGH SPEED??? MS PRO is still at early stage to become mainstream.
Wow, Sony you sure have to know about inventions! Hopes that you will make them COMPATIBLE to each other now.

PS : dont bother to look at Sony website about memory stick. They're categorized MS as 'Familiy'-s. To me that is too confusing and just a marketing trick that dont reveal you the truth about MS.

High Speed memory as far as i know has not been mass produced yet. So whether you can use it with your existing MS PRO gadget is still questionable.
But if we look the history, Sony has a bad habit to frequently obsolete their own products at a very short period of time. Sony Vaio and Clie is a good example of this.
Another example is incompatibility between Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO (long or Duo physical form).
I am not surprised if High Speed is not compatible with PRO in the end. The history tells all.

MS PRO and MS DUO PRO are limited to 32 GB capacity by spec. Currently, DUO PROs up to 1 GB are available. Soon 2 GB will be released and by the end of this year 4 GB will be released as well.
Non-PRO MS can be used both in Non-PRO and PRO devices. PRO MS can only be used in PRO devices.
Non-DUO MS can be used both in DUO and Non-DUO devices (in the former it will stick out a bit). DUO MS can also be used both in DUO and Non-DUO devices (in the latter case an adapter is required).
HighSpeed MS PRO (DUO and non-DUO) are compatible with devices supporting MS PRO (DUO and non-DUO). They are however twice as expencive as non-HighSpeed PRO (at least here in Sweden).
Yes, it is confusing.
