ADSL via the phone line is certainly the most common broadband for home users so I guess its an easy mistake to make

yeah it seems that one is designed for taking coaxial cable as input and unfortunately I think that means you're stuffed.

talk to the people you got it from and see if you can exchange it for one that is compatible with cable internet delivery

if they don't supply wireless cable modems then try and get a refund and maybe go for the wireless option that NTL offer in the link I gave earlier

I donīt get it? Itīs still just a modem, doesnīt matter how the signal goes IN to the modem as long as itīs a regular TP-out to computer. Just plug in the WLAN-router after the modem and live happily ever after!

That was my first thought but the trouble is the netgear he bought includes an internal ADSL modem into which the signal has to be fed and I checked the manual and there is no way to disable the modem part of the device and having installed a couple of these netgear devices myself you definitly need to configure the ADSL details for anything to work
