Ahhh, that is a problem - if you bought it from PC world they probably told you it could

I would write and complain to Steve Jobs straight away. It's obviously an oversight on their part. Seeing what's happening with AAC, I'm surprised they've not tried to make all phone calls proprietary to apple as well ......

Wait, is there a difference in playback quality between the regular built-in player and Unreal Player?

@ All,

I have the new iPod Photo and have tested the batter out to approximately 15 hours STRAIGHT. Now that's quite a bit of time from a music player. Next. Anyone and everyone that knows anything about music and the iPod will tell you that the headphones that come with them tend to be terrible. The Sony ones are quite good. I have three different pairs depending on what I am doing and they all product incredible sound. For Excellent headphones, go to www.etymotic.com and be prepared to pay around $150 for a pair of ER-6 or ER-6i. These are for listening only. If you have $300 get the ER-4's. I also have a pair of Sennheisers that I use for sport.

Who needs an iPod? Someone such as myself that uses its basic PDA functions, or has it stocked currently with about 3000 songs and has a 500 photo library sitting on it.

P.S. GoviGov, no offense but $460 bucks is a bit much for someone coming from Kerala so I would not weigh in on this.

My P900 sounds great with a pair of Sennhieser PCX-250 headphones.
or my MDR EX71's.

It's better to have more songs on a device, it gives you much more variety when you're out and about, and you don't have to sit there choosing which songs you want on the phone and which ones have to be sacrificed.

I'm not a fan of iPods, and i think the sound quality is rubbish, and bass reproduction is absolutely cr@p. I've used my P900 as an MP3 Player and i think the quality is brilliant. By far the best i've ever heard from a phone. I don't think it's quite good enough to make a HDD MP3 player obsolete, because of memory limitations, but it's creeping very close.

I'm considering selling my 40GB iRiver HDD player because i just don't use it now. You take your phone everywhere with you, so you might as well stick some tunes on it and use it as an Mp3 player too. Batteries are dirt cheap, memory cards are coming down in price, sooner or later Apple and other major MP3 player manufacturers will have to compete with SE

Talking of ipods,a friend who comes to visit us from London, had both items at the time he last visited just before Christmas, that is the p910i and the ipod, now at the time this was great as i was looking for a mp3player and looking to upgrade my TREO 600.I was stunned to see that the p910i sounded better!!Another way of testing these side by side comparisons by the way is to run them through a amp and speakers, which is very easy to do,I purchased some monster headphone to rca converters of ebay for £8.00.Now this same friend said if i was looking for mp3 go to a sony centre and look at a VGF-AP1 SONY personal music player.(or to some Pocket Vaio).WOW!!!!this thing has a colour screen of stunning Quality,A fantastic battery life,of two or three times the ipod, will display photos, has 40 gig,(there is a 20gig one),you can download pics straight from a camera, will display Album art whilst playing. So I bought one!!!I am very, very, pleased. The ATRAC sound Quality is stunning, the build quality is awesome, very user friendly. The only thing i could fault is lack of official Accessories,ie quality cases.I have now just changed my contract, and got my new P910i,im not so pleased, had problems, still cannot get it to connect to my PC,its driving me mad!!

The P910 may or may not sound better, there are so many variables: codec, sample rate etc, however the beauty of the iPod is its integration with iTunes and it's ability to use playlists. Personally I use either AAC at high bitrates or Apple lossless or AIFF. Firewire certainly syncs (iPod) lots faster than Bluetooth too (Sony weren't kind enough to provide any USB connectivity or software for us Apple users:-( ).
