I will keep you updated for sure. However I am slowly resigning myself to having to do a master reset and just starting from scratch

2 things I've learned.

Put all your programs on the memory stick (yeah yeah I know) and update at least once a week if you reguarly add/remove a lot of files from your phone. I usually backup every couple of months.

There is a way to access all files that might be locked otherwise. Basically do a backup and open a file manager (epocware) and all files are accessible during backup (you can move them around or even delete them). The logic is to have a proper backup, the system will let its guards down during backup, thats when its most vulnerable:-)

I have replied to your PM, thanks for this info! Although it was a tiny bit too late

Well its all working again but its been a very strange affair.

Clearly the f/ware update was healthy and ok, theres no platform based errors. Somewhere, during the backup, the phone was being restored with an app that was using the messages area of the phone and as a result the Index file used to execute the opening of the SMS areas was corrupt and not restored correctly. As explained earlier this meant that the only way to get full working order was to master reset. So I did, but I opted to keep all user installed apps to see what would happen.

After a reset the sms areas would still not work. So i began deleting apps one by one to see which b*stard it was casuing me the grief. After about 30 mins of this I still hadnt identified which app it was so getting bored I did another reset and removed everything inc user installed apps.

Then the messages area worked fully. So somewhere there was an app that was interfering with the messages programs. I still dont know which one it was.

To be honest its probably done me a favour. I had soooo much cack on the phone that I didnt use, apps, pics, files... etc.. that deleting it all has meant I have freed up about 50MB on the phone and over 150MB on the card. I have since reinstalled all my important apps and I am pretty much back to normal now. I sync'd with outlook and put all my contacts and claendar events back too. So its not too bad.

My concern early on was that I had fatally damaged the phone with the f/ware update, but now it appears to just be a typical eletronic bug/error that was easliy sorted.

The info that Alpal posted looks interesting but I didnt get chance to try it, maybe next time it all goes wrong!

Now I just need to get MagicProfilesPro working properly again!

Thanks for all your help!
