The nokia's have steady signal bar because they have a diff algorithm. The r2ae also did something to signal strength, it is said it will never drop off at once, but one by one.

well i guess i have to believe you guys bu i noticed something, mobileburn is based in usa and the always point out that the reception is bad in se phones etc etc
while i rarely if ever notice something like that in most european based magazines, as an example even my z1010 always shows all 5 bars, even in the alps, and that is a fact, it depends where you live, slovenia is such a small country that we have great reception while i may be a trouble in usa..

Since having Ericsson's T28W I stood with SE phones, because of the clarity of the voice call. I had on few occasions a Nokia and a Samsung with external antennas, but none could match the clarity of my P900 on t-mobile/US. So I cannot compare what you peeps are fuzzing about. Even my T630 is a solid performer in that department.

Don't know if it's just me, but I've found the P910 to have much better reception, volume and clarity than the T610 and T68? I can't compare with other SE's because they're the only three I've ever used for any length of time.
Of course, your operator and location will obviously have something to do with it as well but in my case, same operator and same location, my P910 gives the best signal and voice yet! Anyone else found this?

some SE phones are abit less good then other phones when it comes to RF. but it depends on a few things.
like T610/T630 they seem to do much better on a 1800 network then on 900.
i myself can't complain, sure i've lost my signal a few times, but i wasn't the only one. i've seen my SE phones keep up with the signal were other brands lots it, and visa versa.
however i can only say great words about my P910i (using it on a 1800/Egsm network). it keeps the signal were i've seen almost every other phone fail. not even nokia can keep up with it (6670/6630 not included in the test)
EDIT: we see that RF on the new SE phones is better like K700. so in time we won't complain about RF
but most of us already know that there is another thing that we don't like. battery life. its just poor. T68i was great T610 was good. but on the K700 oh boy. sure the screen uses more power (we can live with that) but why oh why did they use a battery that's less strong then the one in the T610? makes you think right

True, but overall, SE batteries last much longer then other phones. That one good point about SE hpones. Their batteries outperform batteries in phones from other brands.
P900/910i, Z1010, T28 are just to name a few.
Z1010 is the only 3G handset that can hold over 400 hours in standby mode.

Firstly, NEVER compare the signal strength bars between any two makes of Phones. The criteria for what is good signal strength varies between two makes. I think Nokia only show the recieving strength of the signal (in dB). Ericsson weights this with Congestion, so even if you are close to a transmitter, but the transmitter is heavily used, it woudl show as a "poor signal". Try going to a busy airport with different brands of phone, and you will see that in action.
Nokias arials have been good, but not as robust (for some reason deteriorates)
Ericsson had very good reception in the times of the big external Arial, except with some T28, R320s, etc. Thsi was because of the Flouresent displays on the phone seemed to induce some sort of interference. This can actually be heard as a low hum through the speaker during a call, and the hum would dissapear when the light goes off (and signal strength would pick up).
Their internal arial based phoens have in general not been very good, compared to the equivelent Nokia, BUT they seem more consistant. In my experience, nokias tend to deteriorate over time (maybe due to the type of connector used to connect the external arial to the board, Nokia uses contacts, whilst ericsson solderes it on)
Agreed the T610/T630 were crap. The P800 was better, but not much.
However, the S700i I have is awesome. My work area has crap reception on T-Mobile. I have tried many types of phone, and all of them tend to loose connectivity frequently. The worst was the T68 (often said no signal), followed by the T610 (cannot last on GPRS for more than 20 mins), then the P800 which lasted on GPRS, but voice calls were very broken-up. I borrowed a Nokia 7210 for a couple of days, and that did hold the GPRS signal, and voice calls were somewhat clearer. All phones drained their batterys somewhat quicker (due to poor signal)
The S700i i have is simply awesome. side by side with the t610 on the same network, the S700i is showing 4 bars, occasionally dropping to 3, whereas the T610 is fluctuating between 1 and 3 bars, occasionally going to zero. All calls are crystal clear, and GPRS is fast and stable, and battery drain is significantly lower. (I use FMA to monitor)

Did you test the K700! I've heard its reception is good as well. Is it comparable to that of the S700?

Heres the quote from the phone expert guy on mobileburn.com
