£23 for a cable, plus a credit for debranding... As much as I'd like to debrand, it just isn't worth £30!

That was the fighter cable. T28 much cheaper.

FaceOff Mobiles are going to send me out a new cable. Hopefully the new one will work.

After a week of waiting, a new cable has turned up from FaceOffMobiles, but this one does even less than the last one!
Now the phone doesn't boot on it's own and get stuck in a loop, it does nothing. I tap the ON button and the phone starts to boot then says "Insert SIM". It does this no matter what settings I use (RTS/DTR) and with both TotalMultiServer and the SEtool comport client.
I'm definately tapping the buttom, not holding it down, but that seems to make no difference.
I'm going to try this new cable with a different PC and phone tomorrow before I declare it dead, but it's not looking good. I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall...

Mate i suggest you return both those cables and get the cable suggested by gbrooks, trust me that cable works, i bought one from completefone.
And try and use SE Tool instead, much better support as well.
Your phone is not dead, it just needs patience and a working cable.
Hang in there!

I've tried 2 phones (K700 & T610), 2 PCs and 2 pieces of software (Total MultiSever and SETool) and the cable appears to be totally dead.
I've emailed FaceOffMobiles and asked for a refund.

One month later and my phone has finally been flashed!
I returned both cables to FaceOffMobiles, who confirmed they were both faulty. I asked for a full refund, which they were prepared to do, but they also offered to send me a third cable, which was to be tested prior to shipping, on a next-day courier service. I decided to do this, and thankfully the third cable did indeed work.
The thing about "pressing the on button briefly" was irrelevant in the end as the process continued without needing to perform this step.
I'm not overly impressed with the service from FaceOffMobiles. Yes, they eventually resolved the situation, but it did take a month and numerous emails to get anywhere.
