over here in Norway, Sony Ericsson is biggest on the mobile marked. Sony Ericsson has over 52% markedshare

and NOIKA is only the second biggest. With other words, every second mobile phone which is sold in Norway is a Sony Ericsson.. Congratulation

SE lacks clamshells.
and nokia is not the main rival. samsung is.
people realize more and more that SE is better then nokia.
but some people think that samsung is the best, while they are terrible. there D500 can't make up for all those other ones, and imo the D500 is overpriced for what you get, knowing that the phone only cost 122euro to build+ship. sharing this info i'll probably receive a nice mail from samsung, but i don't care. is it so hard to give a good value for money?
I wonder is D500 using Ericsson platform or Nokia series 60 hehe....
Anyway the current developement in SE just show that when a company start making money, they will be able to do more exciting things.
Whether you hate it or like it....Money is the reason for all the new product announced....it just caught me by suprise Nokia no longer announce key product during CEBIT

superG is you are saying that SE isn't that inovatiatieve i must agree. SE lives on the inovations and old prototypes of ericsson.
but they did to some special things.
bluetooth headset with caller ID (hbh-200 and hbh-660)
first phone with long range bluetooth
they have the most powerfull battery's
P800 the first true smartphone
and many things more.
i don't think SE will become number 1 in the next 2years. they don't have the guts (cruel, but true) nore the power (logistics, ability to produce xx number of phones) to come number 1. sure they are seen as the best brand, but it would be much nicer to see that they are the best selling brand.
SE needs a special team to get them to the top. if SE would ask a few of us esato members to work for them and to create such a team that we can make there phones even more perfect, more inovation and have a wider range then i'm 100% sure SE could do it.
Sorry to say that if majority of the Esato member join SE.....the company will have a lot of patent, a lot of innovation and might get more sales...BUT the company might run out of money in no time.
WHY??? EVERYONE IS TRYING TO BUILD THE BEST PHONE LIKE THEY EXPECTED IN THE FORUM TILL DELIVERY DATE IS MISSED, HIGH COST TO PRODUCE (TO MAKE MARKET SHARE, SALES PRICE MUST BE LOW)...LEADING TO LOW PROFIT MARGIN.
BUT ON THE BRIGHT SIDE.....EVERY YEAR SE PHONE WILL BE REPORTED IN TIMES JUST LIKE WHENEVER APPLE LAUNCH NEW PRODUCT.
SE just recover from all the debt and negative cash flow they get from Ericsson mobile phone division (They lost money even before T28 is out). Like I mentioned in the previous message....with money...innovation come.
You can see how Siemens is struggling now with all their low end phone....good sales....but no profit....where's the replacement of their high end phone....a handful for a company who used to have very high market share.

Video streaming is very poor with Edge due to very low bandwidth. During comming years people will go more toward UMTS in europe, not edge. Number of edge networks in europe are still very small (umts is growing more than edge). During this autumn, the first comercial UMTS hsdpa network will be launched, which is 10 times faster than current UMTS. Edge will be reduced to a technology for the country side where there may not be any economical benefits to use UMTS.
UMTS is the future. Not edge (its old by now).

EDGE is not old. Believe me. EDGE is a 3G technology, which one should not forget. It is a 3GPP R99 technology as is WCDMA: Everybody is brainwashed by the hype on 3G WCDMA (which has contributed to its "failure"). 3G WCDMA will not be a success before 10 or so years. Remember also that WCDMA is nothing without GSM and EDGE. WCDMA would not take off without these. Why? because the coverage is patchy, and interworking with GSM is essential. Also service continuity betweeen both systems is essential, and EDGE is very important for that not for all operators, but for many of them. GSM/EDGE is the enabler to any possible success with WCDMA.
Besides, EDGE is a data technology, dont forget that either. Also remember that not every operator has a UMTS license and competition with UMTS operators means same services (and that IS possible) over both UMTS and non UMTS:
Last, 128kbps video streaming is very impressive.
Even 20 something video streaming is impressive. Check for yourself is my best advice.
There are a lot of EDGE networks worldwide, much more than UMTS ones. Check for yourself at
www.3gamericas.com
Focus on EDGE is increasing very very fast.

@SuperG
First og all Edge is concidered to be 2.5G not 3G (if you read that somewhere they have misslead you). Then there is a big difference in having Edge in-service and planing for it. According to your own source 64 comercial UMTS and 56 Edge networks exist so far.
With a 128kbps connection you have to compress the video heavely. At best you will end up with choppy (how much depending on how many user there are in the network) QCIF resolution. I don't call that good quality.
Sure GSM will not vanish for many years. And as I said, Edge will be of choice in parts where there is no economical benefit from UMTS (it is a more expencive technology after all). But the discussion was why SE do not release that many Edge phones. And the guess was, probably because their biggest market (europe for instance) mainly invest in UMTS networks and where there are UMTS, people will more and more leave the GSM and buy UMTS handsets instead.

@superG
what are you blabbering on about video streaming?!
i wathced quite a few streams with p800 and that was 2 years ago, heck it was only gprs but still on of the best at that time,
if you think 128kpbs is impressive then i don't think you ever held a 3g phone in your hand, why are you so defensive about edge? sure edge is good but almost if not all major operators in europe are using 3g, heck 3g is active for at least a year and a half here, maybe longer, i jst don't your point about video streaming, p800 was one of the first that had it but if you are talking about fast video streaming then i have to say i was suprised by the z1010 speed and quality, i watched at least a dozen of tv channels via my z1010 and now you are saying that se doesn't know what is video streaming? are you dreaming?
and about the mp3 playre, again what a bunch of potatoes
i remember listening on a p800 when nokia hadn't even released the 3650, and at least se always has STEREO output, i just can't tell how frustrated was i when i had a 6600.... horrible, it sounds like the music is in the centre of your head....
they hadn't invented the pda phone? wtf? looks p800 was the first uiq device, sure it isn't m$ but most people like symbian just because of that.....
and about cards in their phones, yes i agree they have a took a long time but at least they have used a lot of memory inside, but at the same time nokia was very behind also, look at siemens....
and yes se are at the forefront of features, sorry but edge doesn't make such a difference, at least not in my eyes, se decided that they won't use edge, frankly i'm happy about that, less research on edge phones and more on user friendly 3g ones such as k600....
and you were saying something about jap phones having better cameras, why are suddenly comparing euro phones with jap? just because you can't find a better nokia? look at se phones in jap, no0t a glimpse on the internet look at them hard and you will see that even se jap is light years in front of se euro....
anyway i'm tired of this, if you don't like se the ok don't buy them, but bashing them and calling them old in technology that's imho inmature...

SE made the choice to putt all their effort on 3G...thatīs why SEīs phones are the best in that area right now(ex v800)...IMHO thatīs the best strategy, EDGE wonīt mean anything in countrys were people HAVE money to spend in the expensive EDGE or UMTS phones. This way SE they avoid spending resources in a non profitable area.
@Super G, do you now how important is and was the role o Ericsson and SE in the development of something so "little" in the mobile industry as BLUETOOTH!??
You acuse people here about being "die hard SE fans" but you donīt realize you are almost completly blind by youīre nokia fundamentalism
I agree with the starter of this topic: this late SE releases realy made me more enthusiastic about SE...and we still have to expect new clamshell and new UIQ phones - iīm betting my money theyīll also kick ass
