But I wonder why my friend who recently bought a K700i with R2L can't disable the sound of her camera shutter while me and my brother can with the same firmware from our phones bought last year? We are all in the same locality, same phones, and our phones are all unlocked.

Only because phones have the same firmware, does not mean they'll be identical. I remember back in 2003, my friend bought a T610 with the same firmware version as mine, but his phone ran faster because SE had done something to the same firmware without releasing an entire new version.

if you cant mute the camera sound, just redirect the sound. put the headset in the phone and the sound of the camera will go through the headset.

I can promise you that its nothing to do with the hardware.
To the best of my knowledge:
A phones software has several different parts. Theres the system software (firmware) and an area with settings known as gdfs (i believe). The setting to say wether or not to play the shutter sound is held in the gdfs area.
And im sure someone will correct me if im wrong

The GDFS is an area on your phones memory which holds configuration data for loads of different things on your phone, everything from sim locks, band locks, battery config information and stuff like camera shutter settings.
You can't "view" it as such, you can make backups of it and read the file produced but it won't make much sense. It is very possible to change settings with flashing software, but it is also possible to end up with a blinking phone if you not careful.
If you really want to remove the whole camera sound you need either change the setting or just remove the sound files from you phone using flashing software.
