It is Skype ON 3 not Skype 3. Skype on 3 is a service the provider 3 has started offering. It does not make the use of Wi-Fi phones, but instead your phone makes a call to a 3 server that is connected to the internet and places the call via Skype.
So in other words, this does not necessary mean Skype for UIQ is any closer.

Hi all,
I' not so sure it's use is actually free as whilst it does not incur any Voice call charges it does establish a Data call. So depending on your Network provider and their terms and conditions it could actually be costing you money. I am on T-Mobile Web N Walk and VOIP is not allowed within Data usage, luckily my broadband is from BT and i believe i am now entitled to use WiFi networks for free although i will have to check into this. I was using a Yamamoto Blue USB access point but this has now stopped working. So my TyTN with Skype has replaced this as my Skype phone over my WiFi network and hopefully also when out and about on some of the available Networks also. I have to say that Skype on a Pocket PC is exactly the same as on my laptop and call quality is excellent and was one of the reasons i wanted to check a WM5 device.
As to why would anyone want Skype on a Mobile well not just to call other Skype users but for instance i call a friend that breeds and works Dobermanns in Denmark through Skype out a lot cheaper than from either a land line or from my mobile.

Fantastic must say. I have a lot of relatives and friends in USA and other Europe countries and use to call them using skype out. It's much, much cheaper option and I really hope P990 will have that functionality with the software Ares wrote about.

Skype on WM has problems in itself:
1. It requires a lot of processor power and free memory. Recommended minimum is 350 Hz for WM.
2. The software itself is quite slow, although it integrates well with WM
3. You cannot use a bluetooth headset with Skype, as it only works with the speaker on the device itself.
4. Data charges are not free for everyone.
5. There is no freely available version of Skype on Symbian. 3 has an exclusive with Skype to provide it on their phones.
