What do you mean latency time ?? in what ?
downloading the internet or playing games ??
i play cs and my ping is 20-25max thats on 2meg
and i have never ever been unable to connect, ive lost connection a few times but once i got rid of the aol software thats never happened.
A small advice, if you router can stand up like the netgear do it, mine used to hang untill i stood it up. Much cooler

Trust me, you will be hard pushed to get a better ping than about 18 on any connection and thats what i average on CS:source my friend pays for 4meg broardband and his ping isnt like mine, i laugh in his face!
Obviously your ping also depoends on your processor and gfx card.

dude AOL is whack when it comes to home networking becasue u have to buy CERTAIN stuff which usually more expensive! so if you have more than one pc i suggest any but aol.
but if u are the simple one pc owner then any isp is good enuff baassically its just on the subscrption your buying

No thats not true. AOL simply only offered support and set-up support on Netgear. AOL will work on other routers but no support was provided. AOL are curently expanding there support on other router's such as D-Link etc.
Every one complains about AOL, I get 2meg a month for £25, there is no download limits and there custmer support is actualy really good.

I'm with BT, signed up 3 months ago for the 2 meg connection, but my local exchange can only "handle" 1 meg, so I'm stuck with 1 meg. For this I have to pay 25 quid. Have not had any major problems though and I've hacked my router and reconfigured it to make it more secure.
Now I'm wondering since BT is the Big Daddy in the communications field and they can only offer 1 or 2 meg, how can Bulldog do it with 8 meg.
Anybody knows how it works?

I heard about bulldog last year but they didn't reach this far south but following this conversation I have signed up with bulldog this morning on their interactive plan.
I must say that I tested their customer service/technical support line 4 times from 9 till 12 and each time received a message saying they were very busy and I should call back so was not impressed with that.
that said, they do offer an 0845 dial up line for when there is outtage on the ADSL service so that would mean I would not lose the ability to get online so that kind of makes up for it.
@Uncle Bob, I asked exactly that question and they said that they go to the exchange and add some extra equipment so that the 8Mbit service can be supported. I didn't ask for any further detail

It's called Local Loop Unbundling (LLU). Basically, the service providers modify the exchanges to by-pass BTs default ADSL routing gear (which is the part that is currently limited to 2meg) and use their own, dedicated routing gear instead. This allows a 'direct' connection to the service providers servers resulting in higher speeds, even though they still use the copper phone wires to your house.

i d have a serious think about what you plan to use your connection for as a lot of providers ie bt ntl etc have limits per month. many of these havent been charging so far but in the next few months they will be, i saw an article saying bt will be charging £2.35 every gb you go over your allowance.
