I bought my K750i after talking to SE USA and being assured that most of the common parts needed to fix the phone were in stock, and they would honour the warranty.

I was even told that SE USA would be selling the K750i on their site in July.

They're not doing me a favour by fixing the phone.

Actually the fact they're going to honour your warranty IS doing you a favour. The fact they're not making you send it back to the UK already and saying "contact where you bought it" is another favour.

They certainly don't do it in other places, after all there's no international warranty they recognise. (EU wide yes... but I hadn't heard of the US becoming part of the EU )

If you're prepared to be an early adopter you should be prepared for everything that goes along with it.

@Andrew:
There's no reason a service center wouldn't look at it in the UK as long as you can show a valid proof of purchase. It will has a warranty in the country of purchase, that can't be declined. Only thing they may do is charge you for posting it back, but you could always talk to them about that first.

Guys,

The US SE repair center acts like a SILO, they feel they are not liable to repair a SE K750 since its not sold here.. they make it sound like they are SOLECTRON, having absolutely nothing to do with SE.. They told me, we repair phones not sold in the US on a 'best effort', which means they may take 6 months to repair a phone.. I gave up and they sent my POS back unrepaired. Now I'm sending to the UK with a friends return address. He'll send back to me in the US once repaired. End of story. Bottom line, if your phone isnt sold in the states, don't even bother!

What the SE service centre in U.S. told you re. "best effort" is absolutely correct, and reasonable. The warranty conditions are clearly stated in the warranty document in ever SE phone.

R's Electrics in Tottenham, UK used to be able to handle warranty repairs from overseas (but with handling fees). But I think SE might have stopped using indpendent service centres.

I live right by the service center and was just wondering if i should bring in my k750 converted to the w800 since my joystick is being stupid. Will they fix it for a charge since opening up the k750 voids the warranty or will they not fix it at all because I did that?

LOng time ago I sent my P900 in for repair. After everything was set and done it was 3 month later until I had it back. But only after I sicked the BBB on them. The problem is SE hires out the repair to an outfit that does many repairs/stuff for different companies. So they are not really in control what is going on and have no clue about the real status of something. It is sad very sad. So you better have a backup phone and lots of patience.
