@Slattery. But SE phone are generally more expensive than others. Lots of people complain about the cost of SE phones when they are released. P900 & S700? £499 when released!?! Thats £1000 for 2 phones!!! C'mon they are more expensive.

Or are you saying SE sell high-end phones at normal prices?

On the B&O thing. What you pay for is exquisite design and the knowledge that little bit extra thought has gone in the product. This is exactly what we are saying.

I agree on b and o design but as for whats in side you can get a tv with far more and better tech ie progressive scan for half the price and it does nt look half as bad. Se phones are not double the price of there counterparts some are a bit more but these are nt there main stream phones i think the p series is ok esp if you look at palm and ipaq prices and they dont have phones This message was posted from a Nokia

@Whizz. What makes you say that .

@slattery. Well I wouldn't go as far as to say they were double but I think they are that little bit more. Am I alone in thinking this?

I love this posts... Because from the time they start new phones are released and it makes people change minds. What do you mean by ":se: is taking the lead"? In terms of sales they are not. In terms of technology they probably are but only in certain fields. Design is so personal no one can judge

In my opinion SonyEricsson has never lost the lead (since back in 19xx when I bought my t18) for it provided good solution and nice features (the ones that I needed).

With UMTS has managed to score a lot of points in releasing the V800 which is featured in any operators advertisement of 3G services (much like Nokia did releasing the first WAP phone, even if nobody boght it, the phone gave huge visibility to Nokia as a brand).

Anyway... Back to topic.
seems on the good path in terms of financial results, but competition in getting tougher... They will continue to be the leader, in my opinion, as long as they invest enough and keep specs and no sheer design as their focus point.
Have a nice discussion

@goldenface just to give you an example a b+o 32in widescreen set will cost about £2800. you can get a panasonic with better features ie progressive scan inputs and more rgb scarts for £1000 and the panny produces one of the best pictures you will ever see on a crt tv.
the b+o does look gorgeous in design terms but not the £1800 better.
comparing phone prices se is not this much more expensive it maybe a little expensive but the k700 etc are priced with the market in my opinion

@Slattery. Sorry, I had no idea a B&O TVs cost so much, bit of an extreme analogy. I still wouldn't measure a company's success in it's field by it sales volumes, especially when most of the competition has had a head start.

However, if you believe SE's mid range phones are priced within the market than that is even better.

That means that SE are selling what the industry regards as well-equipped mid to high-end handsets that are no more cost than the competitors

Another feather in the Sony Ericsson cap, wouldn't you say.

@goldenface
i do agree with you 100%. my only thing is why when the phones are so good they dont transfer into better sales. i agree with you sales aint the only thing to look at but they do provide the revenue for se to continue to compete.
i still believe that other companies are better at selling there products than se who i often feel struggle to get the msg about the benefits of there phones across. i dont think nokia are a realistic target but youve got to look at the likes of lg seimens and samsung as viable targets to overtake.
imho se are better but i do my homework (as i am a tight bugger with money) but people do seem to pick other brands ahead, it cant be looks or features as se isnt behind in any of these areas, so why do people chose other brands ahead. people dont seem to have a probelm going from nokia to motorola or samsung, so what is it about se.
i still think its that they aint getting the msg about there phones across this is just my opinion and aint factual, i just cant think of many other reasons why

@Slattery. Again you are talking about GLOBAL sales. Nokia and Siemens are better established in most markets. I know that is a weak argument but they do have a head start.

You are asking me why people have a problem choosing the Sony Ericsson brand. Again I have to reiitterate that Sony Ericsson is the third best selling manufacturer in Western Europe, a market dominated by Siemens and Nokia. Siemens are losing ground fast and I wouldn't be surprised if soon SE became number 2.

If you don't believe me check out the Gartner Website. http://www.gartner.com. and search Sony Ericsson.

So in Western Europe, a market where SE is established, people obviously don't have a problem choosing Sony Ericsson.

The huge Asian market is a market which SE is only just now getting itself established (not counting Japan and Korea) and the South American market also. Rome wasn't built in a day. Give them a chance to get their name established and they will sell bucket loads.

You can't just throw phones in the shops and expect them to walk off the shelves really can you? You have to create a marketing strategy, advertise etc, and get yourself established and that takes time, time that other manufactures have had plenty of.

yes ive had a look on the web site and yes they are third not a massive third though.
samsung are not exactly established in the mobile phone world but seem to be doing very well esp in the uk. your point about just putting phones into shops and expecting them to sell is exactly what i am saying that se isnt communicating there phones well enough imho.
as for sales well i think they are important as i sell for a living and thats the live blood of the company i work for if we dont sell we can keep promoting our products as we dont have enough money we can keep developing new products that will be market leader.
if you dont think sales are important fair enough but see what the next se phone is like if they dont sell 1 phone this year (i know this would never happen just using it as an example of why i believe sales are important
