But WHY are the so late? I really want this phone! This or a Samsung. Untill this is released, the samsung price will drop, and again SE lost the battle, because people already purchase other similar spec phones. 95% of the users don't know that SE has better software than others. So we here at esato are the only 5% who will wait for it. The rest isn't impressed by wow Satio is coming.. They will look at the pixon12, wow 12Mp, let's buy it. Satio is another dead phone for the world.. It is alive only for us at Esato and other SE fans. Pity again.
Funny thing i remembered: SE is always the first to ANNOUNCE 8 or 12MPx phones, but almost last that RELEASES them! :/

I totally disagree with you. If the new samsung 12mp pixon had a completley new interface and new smarts and feats fair enough, but its just a Pixon with a 12mp camera, there isnt a difference between the Pixon 8mp and the Pixon 12mp. So far the Aino has the edge and retailers will know this. Even though the Pixon 12mp is released earlier it hardley makes a difference, because June-September is hardly the peak selling time for mobile phones. Christmas is and the Satio is out just in time for the christmas season, at christmas is when most upgrade there phone so by then both phones will be availble. And since its in the Pay monthly market it wouldnt make a difference if the pixon 12mp dropped in price as nobody is going to buy one on PAYG.

This is a preemptive strike by Samsung. By the time Satio hits the market it will be hard to attract the consumers that are looking for the top-of-the-line camera phone when there already have been a cheaper model available on the market for several months.

well, SE could quickly release new version of C905 with 12MP... right?
SE raised the interest of 12MP but Samsung will get real benefits ($$) as first
marketing fail vs. marketing masterpiece

It didnt make a difference when the C905 was released, inovo8 came out a few months earlier and when the C905 was released (at an even higher price than the inovo) it went straight to number one on contracts for a number of weeks and made SE number 1 in the UK. The innovo didnt bring that much attention, even though it was marketed by retailers as "europes first 8mp camera phone" not many were intrested in it at all and didnt perform too well on the Paymonthly chart. So its not about who released what first its about the product.

I agree with
10123 on both his last posts.
I think the megapixel race is all but coming to an end - people are less likely to buy an expensive phone just based on 'megapixel count' alone like they used to with say the Cyber-shot K800i etc. SE is no longer marketing its new higher-end phones based on the Walkman and Cyber-shot brands alone but adding value options like PlayNowMovies and PS3 etc.
Q4 is the most important month for releasing phones as it is the busiest quarter when people are expected to spend the most.

And what exaclty are people looking at? I talk about the majority that buy phones and use it only for SMS and calls.. Still they get the cheaper pixon12, because it has a 12MPx camera, and again: low price. I really don't know how much it costs to make 1 C905, but the 430euro price is huge for me for a phone like that. And now it's almost 6 months old. Like i said, the problem with SE is the price and the very very slow release.

I do agree that SE overprice there products and do release products too late (not including Satio), but people who buy the C905/Satio/Pixon 12mp will buy them on contracts so it doesnt really matter if the pixon drops in price, the pixon 12mp would have to drop in price by well over £200 to make it viable as a PAYG option, all 3 will still be avaible on the same tarrif so it makes zero difference.

I think it stands to reason that SE is going to release another one or two 12-megapixel handsets before Christmas in the tradional non-smartphone form factors.
At least one may retain Cyber-shot branding rather than coming under the 'Entertainment Communication' or 'Entertainment Unlimited' branding.
They now have a few 8-megapixel handsets, a few 5-megapixel models (including the release of the C901 'eco' phone very soon) and these are also MORE than enough for most people.
I was at the LG Viewty Smart event this morning (the reason why Samsung tried to spoil things with the Pixon12) and although they are obviously going to announce their 12MP model soon - as confirmed by LG's Jeremy Newing - they were quite keen to stress, like others have here, why those extra megapixels aren't really that important for most needs.
An ex-SE executive, who shall remain nameless, told me last week that the operators are the ones that put the pressure on manufacturers to give them new services, so they have no choice but to play the megapixel game - and soon, the same for video recording. There's no point trying to educate people that a tiny sensor trying to capture a billion pixels at ISO 6400 isn't going to look very good (just as you can't convince people that even a 2x digital zoom is pretty pointless, let alone 10, 20 or more!) because the networks and retailers want to be able to write '120 MEGAPIXELS', 'Super-HD VIDEO', HSDPA 2048Mbps and so on.
I'm actually surprised people on here are playing the same games as I'd expect people to be more clued up!!
As for the best time to release a phone, well that's tricky now people sign up for 18 months mainly (some even 24 - and today Orange launched a 36-month tariff!) which means it's staggered quite a bit. And, do people upgrade at Christmas or a while before - or after (when they've recovered from Christmas)? In this current climate, manufacturers may be asked to make top-end killer handsets, but they'll also need to be catering to the mid-range, especially when some tariffs being marketed are only available on fairly low-end models. If these tariffs become popular, many handsets are effectively ruled out of the equation completely anyway.
