just to point out that dannyoneill's suggestion is currently illegal in the UK. the chances of getting caught though are slim.

Yay, my navicore arrived today.
Impressions so far:
* Map browsing is very responsive.
* Route planning is fast.
* The tiny gps receiver works inside, which suprises me.
Will take it out for a real spin later

I took navicore for a small 40 mile spin yesterday.
The voice instructions were very clear. Especially on roundabouts.
If it had to give 2 instructions, very close together, then it would make sure you knew what you had to do first, and then second. Unambiguous.
It worked in flip-closed mode. Suprisingly. So I navigated entirely on voice prompts.
It allows you to add waypoints which is nice.
Adding locations by postcodes is a bit hit-or-miss. It doesn't appear to have all the postcodes in the database, so you only get to type in the first 3 or 4 letters. If I know the route in advance, I use maps.google.com to enter the full postcode, and then find the place on the navicore map. Not a great problem, but I'd have liked them to use up more space on the memory stick to have all postcodes.
Navigating around the map is very easy, and fast. They have some good idioms for zooming in and out and for moving around.
So far, so good.

Just wanted to say i got my copy of route 66 2006 in the post this morning. I bought the CD only, as I already have the reast of the gear.
It seems pretty good so far. I took it for a run around town, and it's pretty OK. I'm off to Telford on Wednesday (don't ask!), so we'll se what it's like on a run.
So far so good though!. I could do with a bigger MS now though to store all the maps! (got a 1Gb the other day, and still can't get all the Euro maps on it!!!)

Hi
I have just received Route 66 Europe 2006 and although it is being sold as a 'European' version, I have realised that it is not possible to plan a route across international borders. If you wanted to plan a route from London to Berlin, you would have to plan each country separately. The problem with this is that you would need to know the best border crossing point each time and the only way to do this would be to plan your route on a map before hand.
I have contacted Route 66 and at present, there are no plans to introduce this functionality. I wondered if the other products available have the same issue?
Regards
Richard
