I think what Eldar meant was that the early prototypes actually had an "8 MP" label on the camera cover on the back. I believe xell can confirm this to you
Is it an exmor thats included?? Or just another sensor made by Sony or any other make?

I'm getting my i8910 HD tonight, so it will be good to play around with this and get a feel for what the final Satio/Idou may be like - now that we know the OS is going to be identical, and the only real differences coming from the themes and add-in applications.
I do think the Satio looks nicer than the i8910 HD though, as Samsung didn't seem to do much in the design stakes - just making a very straight-laced block that won't exactly have iPhone fans forming a large queue!
As for the sensor - well, if the Exmor one started to ship in March, then it was obviously too late for the Satio. The hardware would have been agreed long before the prototypes shown in Barcelona, and will be set in stone unless there are EXCEPTIONAL circumstances to alter such a major part of the phone. The exterior design is probably changeable relatively easily up to the release, but not a hardware change.
I find it hard to believe that the early protos used an 8MP sensor, although I suppose it's possible purely to get a working prototype up and running. I can't say I noticed with the Idou at MWC, but would be fairly positive that they'd have had it marked as 12MP regardless.. you don't announce what was one of the top announcements at MWC and then let the press rip you apart by having a different camera on it!
Satio is obviously (well, hopefully) the first of a number of Symbian devices to come - so you can't expect it to do everything. SE will learn from this by seeing the feedback and monitoring sales. Will the next one come with a keyboard, slide-out keypad, different buttons, more buttons, different controls on the side..? Some people do seem to think that the flagship model will be the last phone ever made; complete perfection. These people will always be somewhat disappointed in life!!

The thing you have to remember is that "Sony" and "Sony Ericsson" are two quite different things. Sony Ericsson are a completely separate business and they're expected to fend for themselves independently of both the parent companies, so SE get nothing from Sony for free - they even have to pay each time they use the Sony brands like Walkman and Cybershot. As far as a component like Exmor is concerned, SE are just a potential customer of Sony's, just like every other manufacturer. If it makes commercial sense for SE to use Exmor in the Satio then they may use it, but they aren't going to get it handed to them on a platter and Sony didn't design it specifically for them either. Whether SE use it depends entirely on the price Sony are charging, and the usual cost/benefit analysis in terms of the impact on manufacturing cost (and thereby profit margins) and what advantage, if any, it will give them in sales.

That's not strictly true, whilst you say they are separate company's, they are all part of the Sony group I mean you can't call it 'Sony Ericsson' then claim Sony have nothing to do with it. And NO other manufacturer will ever be allowed to stick Cybershot or Walkman branding on there devices, SE said they would utilise technical development from Sony's in house Cybershot and Walkman teams which they have thus allowing them to put the names on the phones.
And does no one really ever bother to read my links ever?

So whilst the CMOS sensor has been shipping for a while the LENS has NOT been shipped yet but it WILL be shipped BEFORE the Satio is launched!

Yes it is. Sony Ericsson is a 50/50 joint venture between Sony and Ericsson, it's not wholly or even majority owned by Sony, so not part of the Sony group as such. It's quite wrong to think of SE as simply a division of Sony, regardless of the branding.

Jmcomm's point still stands, there's absolutely no chance that a phone being demonstrated and essentially in its final hardware form right now could be based around a crucial component released only a couple of months ago (after the 12.1mp Idou was first demonstrated in February).
And let's not forget - the Exmor sensor is 12.25mp. The Satio (and Idou before it) have consistently claimed 12.1mp. The maths here isn't difficult - those are two different numbers.

From the sample photos, it looks like the same sensor as the c905 but with 12mp loaded on it, instead of 8, results are very simlar to the c905.

I think you can pretty safely change that to 100% without ending up with egg on your face in the coming months!

Just tread what your saying, you make absolutely NO sense, in one line your telling use Sony Ericsson is 50% SONY and 50% Ericsson, then in the next line telling us Sony has NOTHING to with the company??
And I think your all stupid to be polite to think Exmore will not be used, does the C905 SHOUT it has Exmore? No it does not. So what the hell makes you lot think SE would shout about it now? What makes you lot think that teh Sony Cybershot team have not put there developed module into the phone? In fact name me one phone that uses Exmore and states it does anywhere.
I'll tell you what, if ANY of you can provide 100% accurate proof from Sony themselves that the Satio does NOT use Exmore I'll believe you, until then my point stands more then your's as I have provided more facts to INDICATE that Exmore is SONY'S product which a few pages back some of you didn't believe either

And as the C905 uses Exmore it stands to reason to think the Satio will too, but as I'm speaking to the SE haters I couldn't actually care what you all think anyway because you all never believe SE can actually do anything good.

@apolloa

Don't get upset mate, its frustrating I know. Its really not worth discussing what the lens may or may not be until we see the final version and know for sure.
