Some people will always remain diehard SE fans, no matter what your advice/experience

Yes and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If you love the weather, food, culture & people of your country (eventhough it might be terrible in terms of the quality of life as compared to most other countries), you're not gonna abandon it just because it's screwed up (ie. at war or your leader's a dictator). You'd stay, make the best of the situation and fight on...especially if you don't have money to flee,

i think it'll be a good idea if SE will Open source the P990 and W950 firmware.

That is not possible. Symbian is not the property of SE, they just license it same as Nokia.
Besides, taking such an action would have other drawbacks, not everyone's intentions are good and noble. Can you imagine the kind of malware that could flood the UIQ3 phones and the damages it can cause?

@itguru2

Well your not right either as Symbian is an OS and UIQ a user interface both S60 and UIQ run on Symbian. SE do not own Symbian they do own UIQ.

@Dogmann already answered but let me explain further.
The P990i has 3 separate software components:
1- Symbian 9, which is the main OS that is the property of Symbian and licensed to SE (as well as Nokia and other Symbian phone manufacturers).
2- UIQ3, which SE has recently bought as others have pointed out.
3- Some additional components added by SE that actually gives extra functionality to the P990. In fact, the P990 has the features of UIQ3.1 (maybe more) and the bugs we have, except for the memory leak, are probably due to these components.
SE will never make/can't make any of these components open source.
The most they could do is loosen the signed restriction on the P990 back to the state it was with R3.

How come P990 and W950i are getting another firmware and not m600, i thought that M600 and W950 have similar firmware so they would both get a new firmware not just one. There is people with W950i firmware on a M600 on youtube

Speaking of youtube, i'm sure i'm speaking for everyone when I say WE WANT FLASH SUPPORT. I remember reading an SE statement saying we could visit ANY webpage we desire- not yet a reality. We still can't watch mankind's staple food- youtube and there are so many great sites that require flash. SE, we NEED flash support
