I do agree mib, handset problems are interpreted by the end user, quite rightly, as a problem with the manufacture and design no matter what the cause.
I don't think it is show killer for SE though. I also think they are slowly getting on top of it - The latest software for K750 for example, while it doesn't have the higher video bitrate of early firmware, is nevertheless very stable. I would rather a phone that can be flash updated to reliable firmware, than one with hardware bugs that is never going to be right.
My K750 (R1L) doesn't crash at all I'm pleased to say. And I hammer it (I may not be a smartphone user, but I consider myself a power user of any phone I have ie: I push it to it's limits and usually find all weaknesses and strengths in any platform I use)
My K700, which had an early firmware, was very stable also. The T610 was rock solid in all respects.
But I have to grudgingly admit, without giving up the right to be a fan of SE hardware

, that SE will do themselves a favour by 1. attending to the fit of external casings, and 2. providing a longer lead time for firmware releases (ie: get it right first, especially in new handset releases)

After reading thru most of the posts of this tread,I can't help to ask:should nokia and se change places (reliability wise),would you have posted the way you did ? Nokia is top and se bottom because the way they do their things .You should criticise if you want/expect a change and not look for excuses.(the managers and directors make/have plenty)Greetings from South Africa.Mario ;-)

I, like most Esatonians, am here at Esato because I like SE phones. I had been using nothing but Nokia -- 3310, 3315, 8250, 8310, 7250i, 6600. Then I bought a K700i. The difference was like night and day, in that Nokia units are claimed to be able to do something but fall short for one reason or another. In contrast, the K700i (and the T610 that I have been borrowing) perform solidly and even have hidden functions -- the reason why there are "tips and tricks" threads here!
My K700i's back cover creaked too but I solved it easily with a strip of masking tape in each cover slat. My unit's 9 months old now but I could pass it off as brand-new, save for the missing quickshare and online stickers, which are nonessential anyway.
Nokias are built better? Please. My 7250i creaked and had dust on the LCD since it was a week old. Can't do anything about it.
I personally think Nokias aren't bad, but I wouldn't go so far as to insult other brands in public. Why slag off SE in an SE forum? Is the author of this thread a paid hack of another brand? Live and let live, man. Enjoy whatever phone YOU like, and leave it at that. And get a life.
It's not as if someone put a gun to my head and forced me to switch to SE. We SE users like SE because we like it, ok? What's the point of this thread?

Like u say majority of users are Joe Public. So the software needs to be as idiot-proof as possible and yet at the same time cater to more advance users. I think you know that it is much more difficult to design to cater to less-savvy users than advance users. Maybe SE has not done their homework in this aspect.
Or perhaps SE simply aims at more advanced users? I find SE's UI to be fairly intuitiv and easy to use As I said before, it is a matter of perspective.

Of course, the basic telephony foundation (such as reception) must first be there. It would be an issue if joe public can get reception everywhere when using Nokia, but when he changed to SE he cannot get reception 15% of the time.
I don't think there is really very much to diferentiate the main manufacturers in terms of the basic technology employed.

I have used different phones, I do like SE menu, I am used to it. I agree with th guy wjo said its about how long have you used the phones from the manufacture. I have never had a problem with any phone. The problems are mainly due to users and for a small scale to the manufacture. I dont think there is a bug free phone, sometimes we notice and sometimes we dont. Some people use certain features a lot and they will find problems in those features and some call and receive only. At the end of the day, it depends on individuals.
I thought my phone had a problem and I asked on this forum, that was solved and I actually had no problem but did not know or understand.
Well to me, SE phones are great in advancement.

I can't say that I have ever noticed any real difference in reception between SE, Nokia, Motorola and Samsung.
