i use since last aug nokia symbians, do like the os. very good support and many apps make the usage more colourful. gave a try for the p series aswell, but didnt impressed me that much, same to windows fones

I had a P910i for a year and it was a truelly superb phone, never crashed and with the flip on you could use it as a phone when you wanted to a nd a decent PDA at other times.
come upgrade time no sign of the P990 so I got an MDA VARIO. At first it was a bit buggy and the phone part had problems. but a firmware upgrade fixed all that and now it is fast and stable and you can do anything on it.
I have just got a P990 and it is now in its box to go back, it crashes and even basic functionality doesn't work.
its a sad day for SE I just hope that a firmware upgrade fixes everything but I doubt it stuff is just missing like an easy way to change between ring settings as basic as 'On & Vibrate' 'Just Vibrate' and 'Off No Vibrate'

reading this and other threads at other forums it gives an idea just how much business se have lost simply because of the ridiculous wait from announcement to release of the p990. I, like many others have used and loved the p series for years. Looks, funcionality and uiq OS won hands down with the p900 and p910, I was convinced I'd be sticking with them. After waiting 8 months with the awful camera on the p910 and seeing countless people showing off the 2mp camera on other, lesser se devices I saw the tytn and decided not to wait any longer.
Initially I was gutted, I had to send 3 tytns back due to a variety of problems however 4 weeks on and i'm now happy with my choice. OK, the 2mp camera is pants compared to the se 2mp but WM5 has finally won me over. I have to admit to being a little relieved to see the net full of people sending their p990s back due to crashing and other bugs. I know they'll probably get fixed with firmware updates but being on orange with insurance renders that fact pointless. Orange will not release an update for months, if at all and removing the orange firmware will void my insurance, i had to have 4 replacement p910s over the time i had it so this is a huge factor for me.
Ok, there's a couple of gripes i still have with the tytn but i'll put up with them now I'm used to that excellent keyboard.
The relative failure of the p990 won't harm se - look at the amount of smaller se phones on the streets - and i'll probably be one of the first in the queue for the next in the p series, as long as they've sorted out all the uiq3 issues.
Hopefully it will simply make sure se do not make the same mistake again.
On the other hand, i loved series 60 - i had a nokia 7650 for a year and loved that until i tried uiq. Perhaps this is just natural selection and uiq does fall by the wayside compared with the infinitely funded wm os?

I can do all that you want and better but do need 2 devices to accomplish this feat and unfortunately IMO until the new Symbian Smartphones ship with at least double if not more of current Ram spec that is very unlikely to change. My weapons of choice a M600i with HBH-DS970's and a N93, the M600i is course music player with the stereo bluetooth headset, Calendar, Photo Album and of course phone and is my preferred choice for first use for those takes its size is excellent as is the touchscreen interface. The N93 gains a much better signal always full bars of 3G on T-Mobile where as the M600 struggled and did not lock on for a stable signal Voda Sim is a joke in both handsets and when i spoke to Data support to enquire if there was a system problem was told just a very busy set of cells advised to do a manual network lock on to change priority so even if i wanted to use Data @£2.35 per MB i can't. What are they building their HSPDA network for TV?
The N93 in portrait mode is best for Web browsing and the Safari based browser kills Opera IMO in both ease of use and rendering and speed. Pop3 e-mail retrieval and sending is also simple to set up and works flawlessly, Watching films or videos with correctly encoded material the results are really good just wish it had A2DP, i still store the same photos on here as one the M600 as both perform this task well. I am very tempted to try out the TYTN as can get one for £80 from T-Mobile but in all honestly whilst it can do all my current phones do they do certain things just that little bit better.

If I backup the phone, will the internet configurations be backed up or I will have to ask my phone compaany for all that data again?

Are you crazy? windows is far from a licenced copy of an old mac os!!!! Once upon a time, in the days of WINDOWS version 1.0 (yes there was a windows 1.0), you could say that MS (poorly) copied the apple desktop philosophy, but not the os, which is completely different. Infact the "OS" underpinning windows 1.0 to windows 3.11, is dos, which has nothing to do with apple.
Windows XP is light years ahead of even windows 95, and the old comparison from the days of the first windows os's are no longer relevant. Microsoft no longer copy MAC, and haven't done since the very first versions of Windows.

Microsoft sees what´s new and interesting in the market and creates a third rate mass oriented version of it. Thats how it seems to work. The reason microsoft got so big and sells so much is because they always think about the market, MS is all about the market, all about selling more. It doesnt matter if that compromises their product or service. ´Why should I limit my software or service to one platform (which makes it more stable) when i can make deals with thousands of other companies and we all make more money together?
Why should i take risks on creating something new if i can just copy it and force people to use it with my platform and with the deals i´ve made with other companies? Thats how windows got popular. Thats how internet explorer came to existance... and Windows live Spaces, and Microsoft Zune, and Xbox 360 and so on.... I´m not saying microsoft doesnt have good products, Windows NT is one of them. They just have the worst strategy, design and marketing imo, in the consumer´s perspective i mean. The big companies obviously love it.

@sloopjohn, if one manufacturer brings out a new feature on their car, would you blame the other manufacturers if they did the same thing? Imagine if when the first company produced automatic transmissions, no other company brought out auto gearboxes because it was "someone else's" invention?
All Bill Gates does is incorporate what they believe the market wants. And yes he will take it from anywhere.
Funny, but lot's of open source software utilised other people's code. Usually atleast Bill Gates pays for it (though not always I admit)
Regarding DOS, there were several version around before MS popularised it. And MS paid for DOS, buying it off a guy who thought DOS was dead and he'd never make any money from it. So Bill Gates takes what others reject, and makes it successful. You have problem with this why?
On your reasoning, Apple shouldn't have converted to intel, since it's not their own technology. Apple is far more proprietary than Microsoft, EVEN with a UNIX core!!! So PLEASE, if you want to dump on MS, then you should dump on Apple also. They are no better or worse than eachopther, they are multinational companies who only care about the bottom line. And that my friend, is how the corporate world works.
