To LUWI:
When you get "FAIL" message upon gprs connection, either your account's gprs connection is not yet activated by telco or you're out of gprs coverage. You are not sending sms that time either, because it will fall back to sending via gsm and will not display the Fail message. Take note of the blue triangle on top of the signal bar.

To Beatrix:
GPRS settings for Globe:
1. Go to Connect> Data Conn>Data accounts, then Add accounts.
2. Choose GPRS Data, Name: GPRS(sample only),
APN: www.globe.com.ph, user id: none, password none
3. Set pref. service to GPRS and GSM
4. Set Sms access to GPRS (optional)
5. Go to Wap Services>wap settings then select any profile. Rename it Globe (sample only), you can leave homepage title and address as is (default is mobile internet), then Save To: current profile.
6. Choose Gateway> IP settings> Connect using: GPRS (or whatever you used in 2), IP Address: 192.029.102.103 ; User id: none, Password: none, Data mode: Connectionless
7. Leave the rest of the settings as is.
8. Go back to Wap Services> Select Profile> then choose Globe (or whatever you used in 5).
6. Make sure that gprs is activated (blue triangle) and don't forget to press NO after you exit your Browser to disconnect. You can check GPRS usage on Calls>Data counter.

TO: LUWI, GOWIN & GPRS:
SMS thru gprs really works at Globe. You can verify this by sending 2 identical messages to the same number successively (one with gprs & the other gsm) and observing the blue Message Sending status bar on your phone. With gprs activated (Connect>Data Conn> SMS Access)the blue bar scrolls just a little bit and the Message Sent prompt appears immediately. I noticed this because I travel all around Luzon and found out that SMS took so long to sent when there is no gprs signal (the blue triangle on top of signal bar) even though GSM signal is strong enough.

You can not really send SMS without the center number but that doesn't mean gprs never works. With gprs activated, your message travels from your phone thru gprs (instead of gsm's narrow bandwidth) to the telco's message center and sent out to your recipient either way depending on his settings. Since the SMS passes thru the Message Center, the telco can account you for that.
Whether GPRS SMS is deducted from allocation I think is conditional. I started using gprs last Nov. and noticed the charges on my int'l text dramatically reduced. I verified my latest bill at myglobe and found out it was backed to normal. I activated my wife's gprs (N8310) last month and the bill showed reduced sms.
My guess is (and it is only a GUESS), Globe allowed us to use free gprs sms for a certain period of time or number of text starting on activation.

I noticed it also when sending SMS via GPRS is much(2x) faster(if there is GPRS signal,ok!) than sending SMS via GSM. tnxs.

Is it clear now? It is really possible to send SMS via GPRS. ok.

1) off-topic na yata yung discussions natin dito. should we move the thread elsewhere?

2) shouldn't Globe's Tech Support be able to resolve this once and for all? I have called them up and I have received a negative answer. Why don't everyone try that and see what answers you got

Kung iisip nating mga subscriber ng "GLOBE", may okey pa na sariling sikap nalang iexplore ang lahat ng features ng t68 (ex. SMS via GPRS) kung possible ba tlaga to o hindi. Kasi wala talagang matinong isasagot ang mg 'customer service rep' ng globe telecom. Tinagurian pa naman silang CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE!!!! Wala naman silang masagot na tama. Ang role lang talaga ng mga yun ay magbigay ng running balance, etc... Basta may kinalaman sa ""MONEY"", siguradong tama ang sasabihin nila.

that is why I didn't call CS anymore, sabi ko nga diba i talked with Technical Support.

these are the techies who does the things in the back-end.

I have emailed my contact inside globe to inquire inquire on this, since she's a supervisor there I guess she'd know more or at least ask someone who knows more than the CS reps.
