Many thanks for that i had checked under preferences but hadn't found it i hadn't realised i had to look under preferences not just for the Media Player but actually under Music Player well at least that 's one less thing that annoys me now then.
@koto
Believe me i am far from being a novice when it comes to Ericsson or SE phones the majority of my phones have been from these manufacturers. As i have said i have no problem with people liking what ever phone they wish to use it is always down to the individuals choice. If you are happy and think UIQ3 is better than UIQ2 for you then that is great unfortunately i don't share your opinion and as you say if i have both i am able to evaluate which suits me the best and yes IMO and experience S60 3rd edition is much faster than UIQ3.

I dont understand why you are whining so much here about UIQ3??? Just stick with your Nokia and thats IT. If its not here then its over at symbian forum. If you are happy with your Nokia then thats fine. But please, just stop this you are doing on UIQ3. There are, belive it or not, a hole lot of happy users to.

Well, according this simple 'auto/manual update' thing you are not advanced UIQ3 user neither, far from it. And yet you use m600 only for music and criticise it mercilessly.
However, we are not competing here whose phone is better or faster. One's taste and preferences are almost sacred to me. I don't touch that. We are simply trying to share our experience with bangsters who asked as to do it. From that point I would say your last post is fair enough.

@Tail
Whilst you are entitled to your opinion of UIQ3 as i bought and paid for an M600 so am i. Now if you don't agree or like my opinion far enough but it is my opinion and i am entitled to state it and i am really disappointed with my purchase.
If i was the only one that had complaints then yes you could say it was an isolated case and I'm wrong to suggest it, but to suggest I don't know or understand how to use a phone is both insulting and incorrect. Just for your information i am 46 have run a mobile Data Company held one of the first Vodata licenses and was a full member of the Mobile Data Association i also have tested many units in the past for Ericsson.
Yes you are right many are happy with their units but many more aren't and have every right to voice their disappointment and anger if they so wish. These forums are not lets talk about how great SE are they are for open discussion and every ones opinion is valid. If it breaks your little heart to hear all these nasty people say bad things about your beloved SE stop reading them and play ostrich.
The P990 has been reported as having the highest return rate of any SE phone ever. Both the P990 and M600 prices have dropped faster than any other phone i have ever witnessed. One of these phones is SE's flagship model so that can't be good can it or i suppose you have some positive spin to explain this away also.
Now if you think your snide little comments or those of others is going to shut me up you are sorely mistaken . I have much thicker skin and knowledge to base my arguments on and i really don't care how many times the faith full claim they will fix it because they may improve it but fix it i doubt it, read the P990 discussion thread where siandy in plain english has explained exactly what the problems with the OS and Ram is you never know you may actually learn something.

@Dogmann, I'm not going to defend some of the fanboyism around here, but equally I don't think some of your comments are entirely fair. The fact that you hadn't found the manual/automatic update switch on the music player (which is NOT hidden away or hard to use) suggests your knowledge of UIQ3 is actually pretty basic despite your protestations, and you certainly haven't read the manual. If you're not going to make the merest effort to understand the phone, then your opinion on what's wrong with it inevitably becomes more questionable.
Is it really just the general performance (menu speed etc) you have a problem with? You may find this hard to believe, but my M600i is very quick. Some people have reported here that playing a video can significantly speed up the phone's performance (the theory is that the video app kickstarts some form of graphics acceleration that should already have been running, but hasn't started for some reason). It makes no difference on mine, but then mine's fast to begin with - and it occurs to me that this may be because, as a Vodafone branded handset, it plays a Vodafone startup video when you turn it on anyway. Maybe you should try playing a video and then see how it works? Obviously if this is turns out to simply be an issue with the graphics accelerator not running, then that's something that can easily be fixed in a future update.

Regarding fanboyism it should be said that tail have already been apologised to dogmann in f/w thread which I very appreciate. Dogmann in no way deserved hostile attitude towards him. In the same f/w thread he actually give very objective and understandable comment about people's so call anger toward SE. Many users don't want extra work or third party application in order to use the phone to their satisfaction. It is a fact and in no way can't be denied. From my side I am willing to do it and am sincerely highly satisfied user. Anyway bangsters deserves fair and objective presentation of our experience with all good and bad and it is up to him to choose.

I agree that people shouldn't have to go out of their way using workarounds etc just to get a usable phone, but I have the luxury of a phone which happens to be perfectly usable (and quick) already, and if that is down to the video effect then I think that bodes very well for future software updates that can correct that for everybody.
I can't stress this enough - the talk about UIQ3 being inherently slow is wrong, as proven by the speed of my phone (and other Vodafone branded handsets I'd imagine) and the results other people have had after playing video. There seems to be some bug which is slowing the interface down for many people at the moment, but this is obviously something that SE can and no doubt will fix.

Again absolutely agree with you. That's why I said 'objective presentation'.
My only comment would be that so called workarounds bring not a usable phone but a real small fascinating aII in one device. Like you neither I can't stress this enough - all in all P990 is absolutely amazing phone.

I have been a T68, P800 & P910 user. All great phones. Am on my 3rd P990 in 6 weeks. Great features, nice build, great keyboard etc etc. RUBBISH software. All the phones I have had have had the same issues. Crashing, locking, freezing, rebooting. I probably have to take out the battery 4 or 5 times a week. DULL DULL DULL. i would not reccomend this phone. Mine is going back to Sony Ericsson for them to play with. 3 of my firends have exactly the same issues. are we all that unlucky or is there something wrong with this phone?

@Ollsbols
I realy don't know. I don't have a single bug. Every function work as it should be. I do have to care about RAM so I use swiss manager and am carefull when choosing multitasking. Also my phone is unbranded and has the latest frimware if that mean something. I
MO those crashing, locking, freezing, rebooting are all due to lack of RAM so you simply can't use the phone here and there at your sweet will without care of RAM. That's a fact and the main reason why people are not satisfied and return their phone like you do. I can not speek in the name of those people nor I have any last thought to change their mind but with all sincerity at my disposal I can tell, and you can see that in all my posts, that P990 is amazing me day by day and can't explain enough how happy I am with my purchase.
