I started a thread like this a while back, and soon after introduced the W810 with edge so they listened.

Our networks have all the data carriers availabe, GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA.

EDGE is needed IMO, when 3G drops data would rather use EDGE at 180kb/s than 34kb/s GPRS.

I rather wonder though whether EDGE has been included in some SE handsets for the benefit of non-European networks. As UMTS continues to expand throughout Europe becomes less and less important. The same is true for other markets with expanding UMTS coverage.

Have to agree with 786KBR...I like how the two largest networks in South Africa have dealt with the issues of data transmission standards...GPRS/EDGE is available nationwide...whether your in some rural backwater or in the biggest city, then we've got 3G/HSDPA available in all the major cities depending on specific cells- which are on the increase.

In theory EDGE is not supposed to be much slower than 3G but I've experienced speeds slightly faster than GPRS...nothing to make a song and dance about.

"more nokia models have edge then se ones"

One word: SO?????

This is pretty much another (rather useless) nokia vs. SonyEricsson thread... And we have had our fare share of those already.

On another topic: Merry Christmas everybody!!!!

with what brand should i compare se then? as i focus on these 2 brands mainly, for me, its not useless. this is a fact and have to admit, one of the reasons i perefr nokia in this area, cos i browse very often the net, so fast connection is important for me.

It depends upon which countries you mean, some countries have better coverage than others. Furthermore, coverage is continuing to expand.

Incidentally the UK has no commercially available EDGE networks at all.

786.. I bet the manufacturer's spec on the life span is shorter than that. A year tops. But I agree with you. Personally I set a lifespan of a phone to 2 years minimum to get my money's worth out of it.
