No, 4 satellites is always enough in 3D, provided those 4 satellites are 4 different ones. An overlap in a 2D projection is no problem as in 3D they do not overlap (hopefully ;-)

Hate to tell you this but at just short of 30 Euros that is much to cheap to be a genuine copy of Tom Tom Navigator 6 on DVD.
I also have a Holox BT-321 and have been using it for quite a while now initially with a P910 and then all my phones since. Although many say the Sirf111 is the best this unit uses the Nemerix chip which has faster acquisition times and in the Holox unit it can actually acquire a fix whilst indoors. So you can plan full routes whilst still inside and is up and running before you even get in the car. The more satellites it can see means your unit is future proofed as more satellites are due to be launched.
I just got my copy of TT6 and you're right it's not a genuine one. But what matters to me is that it works. The only problem is that I don't have no GPS receiver yet : it's too hard to find a cheap one on Ebay.
More sattelites are due to be launched but for now can we really say 16 or 20 channels are sufficient ? I've seen that most of the GPS receivers from TomTom brand are only 20 channels.
Ok, I go back to Ebay I'll keep you posted.

If you buy a tomtom brand GPS you are paying extra for the brand name, there is no benefit to having a tomtom GPS other than the name far as i can see.
For example, i like my P990 made by SE, but if SE made cars, i definately wouldnt buy one as it wouldnt start in the morning because the battery would be flat !!

Only 20, the above poster has already said you only need 4 for a 3D view, 20 is more then enough and it's up to the military and government how accurate to within a distance they are, I think it's like that as military satnav's are MUCH more accurate.

Hi guys,
I'm back with this post. It took me awhile to put some feedback because I was still waiting for a GPS receiver. I finally got it seems to work fine.
The thing is that I copied all I had on the TomTom DVD to the root of my 4gb memory card, but there are two files with extension .cab that I can't install. These two files are saved on my memory and according the manual I should only tap on them they will install automatically. They appear in my file explorer preceeded by a question mark, what makes that when I tapped on them, I've just had the invitation of saving them instead of installing.
The two files are "tomtom navigator 6.cab" and "tomtom today.cab"
Can it be that this tomtom version is not compatible with the P990i ?
Thanks,
