BTW, take a look on ebay, the iphone pre orders are going on for over 1100 USD, and it is supposed to launch in june for just 499, I'm cracking up already, people desperate or what!, I like the iphone because of its multitouch, u get the idea when u take a look at it>
http://www.apple.com/iphone/ but otherwise you are right, the iphone is aimed for easy use, just like most mac products are, using simplyfied user interface, in that sense it is good, but if you like customizing, the iphone is not for you, i mean people do get bored after a while and start customizing, so as long as the 3rd party apps, firmware updates, and customizable siftware is on the p990, i would think about the iphone, however i would love to see the hardware apple used in the iphone to be incorporated in SE phones, I mean little things like proximity sensors, multitouch screen, automatic horizontal/vertical display recognition, those are the little things that make a phone so much easier to use! In my opinion, apple did an excellent job on their first fone, i think they beat SE and Nokia as far as their first device is compared with the years of developement and experience that Sonyericsson and nokia has been through.

You simply cannot compare a phone that has been on the market for a good few months to one that is not due to the market for the next 6 months or a year if you're outside the US. That timescale is a lifetime in phoneworld.

Give the iphone time. It's appeal will diminish when new products from major players are released. Yes, it is a nice design and has a few interesting hardware but I would like to see a publicly released and working model. In short, time and competition will tell how good this phone is.

Who is behind iphone actually? Ok, apple gave some aparts of their technology, but to make a pc and a fone is sg different, so imo the fone fw and hw they got support from a brand.

Apple is trying to break in to a complete new market for them.
They do not have the experience in the fears competition the mobile market has.
The mp3 market is not really a challenge to manage compared to the mobile market.
Here they have already strong brands such as SE and Nokia as opponents, and trying to take market shares in this branch will not be easy, specially when they have 1 phone so far while SE and Nokia has 40 different models each.
What is good is the way Apple thinks out side the box when it comes to UI, design and interactivity. This will give SE and Nokia some input about where they might head towards in there own design and development of the phones that going to challenge apple in the future.

Interesting, was having a debate about this in the common room earlier
I fink (or hopefully) by the time the iphone is released SE will have created a better contender to the iphone. The Nokia n95 (if no-one has mentioned) is guna be 1 main contender, so my friend quite rightly noted. But i'd still buy the iphone its awsome!
In my opinion Apple has a stonger brand and a better image than SE, they're a trend setter in a way, they're modern and make classy sophisticated products- not that any of SE's products arnt tho

. Apple always seems to have a unique selling point with their products, in the iphones case the ability for the sensors to detect the screen orientation, and i guess the use of widgets.
Tho i don't like the fact it's supposed to be a 'widescreen video ipod' when only being available in 4gb or 8gb ure not gunna store alot of movies on it, especially if that space is guna store 2mp pics you've taken and other mobile data as well.
Tho specs aside, Apple has a strong brand regardless and is surely gunna be successful wit this one. They're always successful!

All this stuff about how good the iPhone is, is getting stupid. I admit the device as demonstrated on Tuesday looks great. The GUI looks great and the finger gestures idea so you don't need a stylus is all great but there's one big problem with the iPhone just now and that is it does not have 3G, and the first version to be released in June in USA will not have 3G. The earliest it is coming to Europe is Q4 this year so we are talking more than 9 months away. If the version released in Europe is not 3G I fail to see how this is a serious competitor to the P990. In any case SE will have announced and maybe even released newer and better models than the P990 before the iPhone even makes it to Europe. So all this comparison between the P990 and the iPhone is completely useless and futile.
