well i just grabbed my 3rd m600i to try out again cause people were saying this new firmware fixes a lot of things...

well i'll have to agree that it's been improved.. video's actually work properly now, memory management is decent.. and also third party support has increased a touch.. but the UIQ3 core is still flawed imo and i'm not sure if they realize how much the UI is lacking..

my biggest complaints revolve around 2 core apps... (that are most essential to the phone imo

1)contact management
- lack of sorting ability re: first name last name etc..etc.. (wasn't sorting in the earlier firmwares?)
- poor searching.. i can only search by last name.. i don't need windows like searching even though it's nice.. but i want to be able to search by first name or last name.
-inabilty to mark multiple people with ease.. yes the little box on the left is nice.. but there's also a blank spot were the left soft key is and a MARK button would do wonders there IMO.

yes there is dreamconnect... but i don't wanna pay for it... and it doesn't skin over the messages application..and honestly i don't think any phonebook app should have to be replaced by a third party app... they might as well just ship us an empty phone board and tell you to install your own OS... the app isn't that great anyways.. and is quite the resource hog in comparison to the default app

messages
overall it's decent.. but the alt key identifer is a bit of a nusiance...
the word prediction intergration has to be better thought out...

i wish they would just modify the layout a little bit... i wish they would adapt a tab folder system for the message folders

like if you're in the inbox you can tab over to sent, draft, unsent etc...with the keyboard arrow keys. (like the first message screen but also incorporated into the next message screen.,,like s60) instead SE has it under "more" view folders.

otherwise the device is getting better... but again it seems to be lacking the little things..

for example
you should be able to program your internet key to any app.. not just the few they give you... think how nice it would be if you could program it to swiss pro

a better.. big smoother wheel like the p9 series (even if it's not multi direction)

profiles would be nice...

video ringtones.. or picture text messages..

turn animations off function.. yes i know of tweak

it's getting a bit better but i think some of the core has to be reworked... and it would be a much better device....

at least i can watch videos on it now....

Well my unbranded M600.... This is the best thing I've ever had.

Current Issues

1. When forwading the e-mail, the cursor is positioned at the end not at the begin, so I always have to scroll all the way up to type my comments.

2. When I apply the theme with no ringtones, everything get set tot the defaults it would be better i it leaves whats currently set.

About the speed

It looks like each main menu item is a seperate task. So if its not already running "Task Bar" its slow to load, otherwise if its alreadt running in the background that its quick I'm happy.

Phone book search

It works fine just like the normal phone. It doesn't it match the begining of a string. and I most of my contact have only the firstname anyway,so I've happy, I don;t need to search by phone number anyway.

I am a happy M600i owner for now, I hope it doesn't disappoint me later.

but anything with a last name will search by that and the first name will be useless..that's the annoying part...

i think the reason i am happy is because the is the first device i've had where i have the sort option. so i always search and sort by the first name.

maybe i don't have too many contacts

My problems are as follows:

- I have two IMAP email accounts configured, and both are set to keep 50 emails in each mailbox. Well, the first I set up does just that. The second does not; it just keeps downloading new messages without deleting the old ones from the device. I prefer Windows Mobile's email feature that lets you keep the last week, two weeks, etc. of emails, not a specified number of emails.

- The UI is SO SLOW! Seriously, is this acceptable? I know there's a workaround, but I heard it needs to be applied each time the phone is rebooted; again, unacceptable. (Good thing this is my personal phone, not for business)

- Memory leak city! Though I must admit, the latest firmware update fixed a lot of this, but not all.

- No hardware buttons? I knew this before I bought it, but I think there should be two soft keys that could server as Call/End buttons, as well as context-sensitive soft keys. I like the phone without them, but it would be better with them.

I do, however, like these features:

- The phone features of this device are so far beyond the TyTN it isn't even funny. Callers have mentioned that I sound better on this phone, and they certainly sound better. The phone features are top notch!

- They keyboard, though hard to get used to at first, is really pretty nice. I like not having to slide it out, like my TyTN.

- The screen is bright and clear, and works well (for me) in bright lighting and outdoors (though I need an anti-glare screen protector).

- Size: this device is light, slim and generally very comfortable in a pocket.

It still needs some work, but when it gets there the M600i will be a pretty nice device. Hopefully in the newer versions of this phone (if there are to be any) they'll add some soft keys and fix some of the other problems with this handset.

if you think this is bad then i think you should read one of the threads about the p990 first!

i for one hope that the next gen M600i DOES NOT have any extra hard keys! i absolutely love the size of the phone and the keypad - you couldn't fit any more buttons without srinking the screen!

As a very happy p900 and p910 user i never thought i'd say this - but i hope they don't produce another p series and concentrate on the m-series

well think they could fit too more softkeys above the keyboard,, but the touchscreens keys are fine.. they just have to more "logical" mapping to improve on the little things.. just doesn't seem well thought out at times...

i don't have a contact sort function in my firmware???????
