I have a couple of local markets stalls really local to where I am.
Why buy food that has to be flown in from thousands of miles away when the same produce is on your doorstep from local producers?

another idea which i came up with, on another forum (belgian) where i lauched this topic is the following.
windmiles can't be used everywhere, you need good wind and a good envirement, because some animals are scared of it and flee to somewhere else, causing chaos in their life.
so why not use the good old fashion windmiles? my town has got one to moal grain to feed to animals.
you need lesser wind, animals aren't scared of it. and it doesn't block the landscape.
and i think it might be even cheaper to build.
so if you (or anyone you know) is participating in your local goverment, please lauch this idea.

its not just the animals dude... whats about wind patterns etc.... we have no idea to know whta this could potentially do to our environment.... im more talking about wind turbines here, but im sure wind mills will have a knock on effect too.....
also they dont generate that much energy anyway..... i was on tmy local gov planning system when they were thinking about puttting wind turbines in my local area... they didnt bother at the time (which was about 5 years back)

true... turbines are huge yet generate very little power. There should be more bio-enery, afterall we seem to be very good a creating waste!

I think all methods should be considered, even Nuclear. What about tidal power, unlimited power as long as the moon goes round the earth.

Too MUCH papers around. People should start usin' those and instead will just PLAINLY use: CDs/CD-Rs when reading and recording DATAS et al. So that there will be NO more TREES to cut as well . . .

@bart - Nice idea mate ! But I'm a bit worried that if we all PLANT a TREE here (assuming a 100K + members) . . . we may be creatin' a NEW generation of TARZANs and Janes . . . don't ya think

Solar power is our best hope - we have 700 times the world's energy needs in solar energy available - it's just that our technology needs way more development.
It's estimated we'll get there in approx 50 yrs.
The Crude Oil will easily last past then, and pollution in the West is inproving all the time. Pollution in the 3rd World is worsening but only because financial constraints mean that they lag behind in technology.
Countries like China and India are catching up fast.
