The carrier branding is a bitch, you have to go the K750. It has the same camera but with the active lense cover - with this you can start camera even when keypad is locked simply by opening the lense (phone stays locked, only camera is useable unless you unlock the keypad).

The W800 Walkman Player is much better than the K750 media player, and you can't fix K750 to be the same with skinning. You have to convert the K750 to a W800 using W800 firmware. You can do this with PhoneXS from se-nse.com for free using the cable that comes with the phone.

You then have a W800 in K750 clothing. You get the Walkman player, and also Flight Mode, but you lose the Activity Menu of the K750.

You can then use the above post links to access the internal file system of the K750 come W800, and replace the camera driver and audio drivers with some wicked modded versions getting around, much better than stock.

Going this route You won't get flash however. Other features of W810 you won't get are EDGE and the automatic screen brightness.

I think PhoneXS is more complicated compared to the method I posted. The method I used simply fools SEUS with a W800 CDA, and a simple normal firmware update gets you a W800 FOC.

Just IMHO anyway, since I never used PhoneXS for this anyway.

Yup, max_wedge m8, I agree with you, the K750i mods are wicked indeed.
To the TS, you have to decide if your provider has EDGE support and if you can live without flash menus and the automatic screen brightness. If you can, then get the K750i. You can even change the menu icons to suit your taste.

yes, but the advantage of the full flash method is a nice fresh firmware on your phone but either method work pretty well. The SEUS preserves user content and settings so that's a big plus if you don't want to setup the phone again from scratch

Loosing the activity menu suxx
I wish that after the firmare change to W800, I could apply a patch to reassign the center button from the Walkman player to the Activity menu.
Btw, is there any for of the activity menu present in the W800?

nope. There is a "more" menu (basically a list of user configurable shortcuts) which is useful but only accessible from the standby screen (up arrow).

I'd go for the W810i. I lusted after the K750i back when it was new, and now own the K800i, but have similar concerns about the durability of the joystick. My wife has the W810i, and it's now practically scratchproof because I applied the invisibleSHIELD full body shield for it ($24.95 U.S. at shieldzone.com). The shield also adds a reflective sheen to the phone and makes it less slippery to handle. They have just the screen shield for the K750i, if you go in that direction.

The icing on the cake for the W810i is EDGE. I live in the U.S. and ignorantly bought the K800i without knowing that U.S. 3G networks ran on nonstandard frequencies (a point I think phone shops should mention before I shell out such money!), and am miserable sometimes limping along with GPRS. If I could trade my K800i for a K790a I gladly would for the extra speed!

Yeah, I prefer all my settings being intact. The method I used kept it that way.
I did not need to setup anything again.

So then, the PhoneXS method resets everything then?
Fresh phone.

yes it does. It's like the difference between doing a format and reinstall of windows as opposed to just running the install over the top of an existing install. If you have problems with firmware (phone crashing etc) then you would be advised to flash from scratch, so as to completely replace the old "install" with a fresh new one.

Also, you won't get all the W800 media content (who cares anyway) if you use SEUS. Essentially you get W800 mainfirmware with K750 file system (aka your existing file system).

If the phone is a new K750 anyway, I'd be in favour of doing a full flash of both MAIN and FILE SYSTEM in order to have a full W800 with a totally fresh firmware, as if it was a W800 out of the box (except for the K750 shell).

I'm a big fan of fresh installs when ever possible.

well i have a k750@w800 and i can say is a great phone, and the w810 is no really the big advantage, flash menu and automatic screem for the double of price!!, in my opinion you should buy the k750, have great sound, great cam, lens cover, is elegant.
