Andy, you shouldn't of sold your Lupo
btw did it cost you alot to maintain?
I mean for a little car it shouldn't be that bad should it
I think i'd try getting one of them cos its small and 1.0 wont be too bad as a first car ..
Just need a decent paid job in the meantime then take the flunge at the wheel

I have a 1999 VW transporter 2.5TDi Syncro and i love it, i have only had to replace the battery and exhaust last year (both were original parts from new).
It doesn't half shift for a van and i love leaving boy racers at the lights! and with it being 4WD it sticks like the preverbial to a blanket!

Aye my VW Lupo was a great car. Do miss it at times. Cost me £12 Kerry as the only thing that went wrong on it was an ignition lead.
Pic of my Lupo after a few mods

The PD engines were great. Shame they're no longer made.

@ Coxy: I used to maintain both VWs myself, but I don't have the time any more

I have a half-decent mechanic nearby, I let him do everything now, except for this warranty (I hope) repair.
GTI VR6 is "high end?" Not in the USA, buddy! And it's not the routine stuff that bothers me. I feel like VW's combination of overdesign and materials cheapness has now left me with a ticking time bomb of a vehicle...
Are Volvo's still good after Ford Motor Co. bought them? It seems their reliablity has taken a bath since then

My wife had a 2nd-hand 1984 240DL, which she's since given to her younger brother - 300,000 miles and still going! Biggest repair to date is an exhaust replacement. Those days are gone at Volvo.

It was at its time matey. The VR6 Golf/Carrado etc were pre R32. It was the R32 that replaced the VR6 so yes its still can be classed as a high end performance VW which means it still retains the higher repair price tag.

@786KBR: Given VWoA's witch hunt against warranty claims, it's a good thing I didn't abuse this motor! Besides, VWs don't like abuse, they they do like to be driven hard. There is a difference.
Not to start anything, but you should make a trip down here...
VW are strong.
Besides my learnt to drive on a VR, drove the crap out of my Dads Mk4 Gti, bought a Mk1 1.6i and burnt that one, mind you its still running as strong as ever, now I have Polo Gti, trying to keep it nice and clean to trade in for my first Audi!

But it still runs good and I really push the little thing!
Ill get some pics with some VR6 twin turbos taking on Scooby STIs.
Heres a fun one!

VW have built some awesome cars - who wouldn't want a G60 Limited(makes a Rallye look as bad as it is)??
...but I haven't seen one VW Motorsport badge in this thread yet; they're not a patch on what they used to be!
(BTW, I've been run over(well, my foot) by the crazy green twin-engined DUBSPORT Mk1......now THAT's a car(12s).....
Oh, for the uninitiated.....
Now that's a VW(no plastic in that engine, either)......
