i didnt mean they will never overcome nokia, i meant not in the near future, not the way nokia is going right now.

IMO what Sony brought to the combo was marketing of brand names and some Sony design ethos but lets face it the Sony mobiles that were produced where not great looking devices in their time. No one can be sure the designs they now have wouldn't of evolved from Ericsson any way but I'm almost certain we would still be seeing innovative devices from Ericsson of the quality that made us all Ericsson fans in the first place and that is MO.

No one can be sure Ericsson alone would have done a better job than Sony Ericsson, thats my opinion.

The heads of both companies, in an interview about the JV, admitted to making poor quality handsets and something needed to be done.

Had they not created the joint venture how do we know what would have happened? Ericsson and Sony might have abandoned their mobile businesses altogether!!

Ericsson probably would have, as the fire in the Philips factory in New Mexico left it almost dead in the water did it not? Losing millions, a huge crisis as to where to obtain chips and churning out poor quality handsets and laying off thousands in its network division.

Sony was even worse, it had a miniscule market share with no chance of making any impact, so I don't understand why people are against the venture. I've heard people say they hate Asian phones!! Whats all that about??

oooh! lets not get too carried away here

clearly both companies had reasons to join forces in this mobile venture. Ericsson with their technological know how and Sony with their design and marketing (lets face it, no one ever bought an Ericsson phone for its beauty! - well not until the very last ones anyway).

I think there was some doubt in the early years of the success of this joining but that was probably limited to the limited number of devices available.

Now SE have devices to cover the whole range required in the market place I think they can only enjoy more and more success as they continue to refine and develop and so I don't see this partnership breaking up

Something really bad would have to happen for them to cuts ties with each other at this stage, they have too much invested and recently both parent companies enjoyed a huge financial dividend from its success - as we all know.

May be some people think the range should now be split in half with Sony taking back half and Ericsson taking its share

Plus if this tie-up with Sagem leads to good things then thats another wing to the partnership.

First:
The Joint venture is going strong now so breaking off or even thinking to break off is suicidal.

Second:
If they do then I think Ericsson will be smarter this time and will not allow what happened to it a few years back,definately it will compete with Nokia coz, they r confident if their tech skills.

Third:
SONY will also make its presense felt as I guess both have learnt a lot from this venture.

I know it wont happen but can you just imagine for a second if Sony teamed up with Nokia or Ericsson teamed up with Nokia. Could be quite interesting though the buggy phone problems would probably get worse with both of them together. And as for Sagem wanting to have a threesome with SonyEricsson well i think thats ghastly i think SonyEricsson will divorce if Sagem wants to muscle in. Sagem only made one good phone that was the one with 1.3 mega pixel camera and QVGA screen cant remember model number but no network took it on but it was there best.
