I've seen it on eBay Germany today - EUR 70
As it seems - it works like a GPS antenna, sends the position in text format to the application on the mobile.
My mobile is k810i - and I bought it preloaded with some applications - one software is "navigator" - it looks like a GPS system with maps. I've also seen some similar free Java applications on the net.

As I understand it you also use GPRS when using GPS for your phone. I don't want to pay money just to use the gps. Or have I totally misunderstood it? Someone with a little more knowledge kindly explain this to me

you only use gprs (or 3g data) if you use your GPS with software like google maps which need to download maps as you go.
if you buy software like tomtom then you already have all the maps loaded and so no data charges are incurred
