NO issue. MS M2 from SanDisk are tested with the entire line of SEMC handsets before release. They would not release a card that wouldn't work in such a popular handset as the K850.

To answer the speed question... 3.5MB/sec write, 12MB/sec read (outside of the phone). The phone is dog slow.

The speed of the card has no relation to it's capacity point. Speed goes to how fast the flash controller can write/read from individual blocks of the flash. Whether there 100 blocks or 100K blocks the speed is the same.

cheers
Junichi

Not necessarily true. Look at the speed differences between the SD and SDHC formats. The SDHC cards are quite a bit slower, so you pay a penalty for that extra capacity.

You are comparing Apples/Oranges. M2 performance has nothing to do with SD performance.

The difference in performance SD vs. SDHC has everything to do with 2 different control mechanisms and firmware on SD vs SDHC. There is a difference, but it's not because of capacity. For example, you won't find a difference between 4GB & 6GB SDHC.

Again, performance has to do with the ability to access (r/w) the flash blocks. There is no penalty for having a million blocks waiting for access versus 10 thousand.

Hi all,

Seeing as i haven't seen anyone else mention it yet i have just got an E90 and have noticed there are now 8GB Sandisk Micro SDHC cards on E-Bay for £54.88 delivered which is pretty good price IMO.

Correction to above post was meant to be available 4th November now not available till 12th November and i can get a 6GB Sandisk card for £33-£35 delivered.

Marc

Are you SURE that the M2 Card format has NOTHING to do with the SD card format???

IS it truely Apples to Oranges? if so I pose 2 simple questions that may not give us a simple answer.

1 - Dual card reader slot: sure its possible different algorhythms used for these formats. the pins are NOT the same but the count of the pins I think is the same, no? Seeing how the dimension are almost identical there is no doubt the memory used is the same but the interface to that memory is different but just how much? Remember a phones' cpu is limited already; so implementing what a standard multi-card reader has would be taxing.

2 - Anyone that has moved MP3's directly into their music folder may have noticed a file that they cannot open ... " sdcdata" why " s d c " in its name? Is this an abbreviation to Secure Digital Card Data? would make perfect sense, but then why not "m2cdata" or " m2data" for Memory 2 card data or M2 data??
