The thing with the flip for me is that I want it, I'm not saying it is totally needed otherwise the phone wouldn't be able to function without it, and I do prefer the screen layout on my W950 and I do wish would implement the same home screen as the M600/W950 in FO mode on the P990.

I also agree that the M600 and P1 work and are a great little phone, but I like many others prefer the flip for my day to day tasks, as with the flip closed I see the P990 as a phone and in flip open a useful PDA.

Now this is mainly the reason come up with the new form factor of M600/P1 to give users of whom prefer to go flip less 100% of the time a better phone and so cater for all markets!

At the end of the day Boinng and many others prefer the form factor of the M600/P1

and others including myself prefer to have our flip!

Is that really such a bad thing??? and worth arguing about???

And in order to answer the question at hand! Yes the P1i is classed as a P-series phone!

would you guys prefer to see a slider form factor? i fail to see the benefit of the flip.. the dpad and normal number pad are needed or is it a screen protection thing?

SE could easily implement a dpad and softkeys into the p1i form factor if they wanted IMO.

Erm... don't wish to offend anyone, but SE obviously thought the M name wasn't doing good enough and that they needed the M600 to do better... But is it a P-series phone... yes, it has a P in front of its name.

Please consider:

The Moto Z8 is non-TS, and has a normal phone keypad. People who don't like touchscreens have a UIQ solution.

P1i has a touchscreen, and querty keypad. It's a P-series, with TS-only functionality.

One cannot offer what the other can, whichever you look at.

P990(and it's successor) offer CHOICE. Flip closed, it's a non-TS UIQ phone.
Flip open, it's the touchscreen PDA form that P1i owners love. No other device offers this choice.

You mean P990 and its 'predecessors', I guess, as P1i does not offer this choice.

Yes, and that's what distinguishes a real 'p-series' phone fm P1i.

Slider formats are very hard to get right especially on a business phone that requires a balance between the keypad and screen section for comfortable typing. Unless of course this is done in the HTC fashion of a horizontal slide out keypad. This would break functionality as each program would need a landscape and portrait mode.
