the funny thing is that nokia are using v7 on the 9210 replacment
and moto on paragon II and siemens and loads more people
not to mention series 60 apps should work with little or no conversion on v7 products
the p800 like the 7650 are pioneer phones

Well said Gadgetboy.
The Series60 is after all just a UI, and I am sure it can be made to run on Linux or any other system if Nokia wants to.
Apps made for Series 60 can undoubtedly be ported very fast to non Series60 Symbian phones, as all the code is symbian based anyway, only the UI needs to be changed.

Quote:You're kinda grasping for straws here, arent you?
Huh? Me grasping for straws? Why would I do that? Why would I even care whether P800 will have more apps or 7650 will? I'm not a shareholder of Nokia nor SE and I don't care what happens to them. I'll just buy the device that I like the most, I don't really care who produces it.
I think some of you people are the ones grasping for straws here. You want the P800 to be a perfect device in every way, but that's just not possible. Can't you people just admit that P800 has some bad things too and not only good ones? Why is that so hard for you to do?
Quote:The Symbian7 architecture, and the P800 which uses it is CLEARLY superior to the series 60 products you name(Symbian 6.x).
Well, of course, it is a new version of Symbian. What's your point? Windows XP is also clearly superior to Windows 2000, but what does that have to do with software for it? Do you know of a cool application or game wich works only on XP but not on 2000? Some of the best apps/games I know of even run on Win98.
Quote:Take a look at the P800 whitepaper and see what it can do, and what the Series 60 phones CANNOT do.
PLEASE, give me an example! P800 has nothing to do with it, we are comparing Symbian7.0 UIQ and Symbian 6.1 Series 60 here.
Quote:The fact that the camera API is not made available means squat. Look at Palm developers, that have hacked the system so badly that each new os revision will break several apps, because they use undocumented features.
So, what are you saying? That people should hack their P800 in order to get some apps working on it?
Quote: I don't understand the great thing about using the P800 as a videocamera, but for those who do, I'm pretty sure a developer will find a way.
You're pretty sure, you say? How many Symbian apps have you written? How many Symbian phones have you hacked? Do you even know of any Symbian phone which was hacked in a way that developers could use something that the manufacturer doesn't want them to use?
Quote:If the camera is the one negative thing you can say about the P800 faca, then I guess you really are desperate.
WTF are you talking about!?!?! Desperate about what? It's not like I'm on some kind of a quest to destroy the P800. Hell, if it won't be too expensive I'll probably get one for myself too. I don't think the phone is perfect, but I do think it is good enough for me and my needs.
But, that doesn't change the fact that Series 60 will be much more popular and widespread, and therefore it will have more software. Or, maybe you are telling me that there will be more P800's sold than all of Nokia, Samsung, Siemens and Panasonic smartphones together?

Faca:
You are a desperate Nokia fanboy, no matter how sad that is. You cannot even grasp how the mobile phones you comment on work. If you need to justify yourself purchasing the 7650 instead of the P800, go to a Nokia forum.
Series60 is a UI, nothing more. UI stands for User Interface. IT IS NOT A OPERATING SYSTEM.
There are no Series60 apps, they are Symbian apps using the Series60 interface. If Nokia put Series60 on top of Linux, none of the apps would work, cause they were written for Symbian. All apps written to use the Series60 interface would work on a Symbian 7 codebase with little or no conversion needed. All that is needed is to get the UI converted.
Just showing how little you understand, you say Symbian7 is not much better than 6.1. How daft are you? The Symbian operating system is constantly evolving, fixing bugs, applying better support for GSM standards. Do you really think the Series60 interface will use the 6.1 codebase forever?
Oh go use a bluetooth headset with your 7650. What's that, you cant? Oh yeah thats right, the 6.1 release has a problem with that, thank god I'm getting a phone based on Symbian 7.
