There was a time when SE phones had the very best of the technology of the day in one handset. AKA T610, K700. Then they started to part ways with W800 and K750, which while identical hardware had software that differed in key areas. Walkman player and flightmode on one, Activity menu on the other. What a proposterous choice to give the end user! With the K800, the media player is missing basic functions (such as sort by date added) that are standard on walkman players. Fortunately the actual audio quality is still good (even better with modded drivers).
Butit's a shame the SE have taken this tack. I don't mind that they have differentiated the lines, but there should be a leading model that bridges the walkman and cybershot brands and has both the best camera and the best walkman gui.
I TOTALLY & whole-heartedly agree!
~ There was a time when SE almost got it together = W810.
W810 had the auto-focus, dedicated walkman player/skin, same incredible lens/sensor combo of the K750, along with the Activity Menu key as well. Its replacement was the W610i. However, it wasn't marketing that determined this .... it was ALL of US! Yes thats right, US. We VOTE with our dollars - and with the HUGE sales of the W800 & the K750 and the feedback from why consumers made their choices; this set SE in motion. The W900 did EXCELLENT; the price point was quite expensive retail & via online direct/indirect. Limited production run compared to all other SE phones. The W900 was the ONE phone where SE did NOT listen to our $$ VOTE!
Other phones progressed onward. The W550 + W600 Also did well with consumers under contract with cellular providers here in the states - but had numerous repairs being done (ppl treated the switch-blade function like US Tmobile users abuse their Sidekicks). Their replacement for the W550/W600 is the horrible build-quality proned W580 - a phone I was hoping to own by now but will never purchase. Upcoming is the W910i - incredible large screen.
I'm STILL waiting for SE to introduce their take on a candybar UIQ3.1 non-touch screen unit with full Java support like that in the K800/W910 (accelerometer). This was we get to BEST of all worlds. Great cybershot cam qui, I want a quality sensor/glass lens, with walkman 3.0 gui, and a more capable Calendar/Tasks/Alarm/Memo functionality. (I get so peeved that my notes from Outlook are botched after 400characters).
Has NOBODY ever found it strange that SE has focused SOOO much on Walkman phones the past 2yrs and even incresingly fashion phones (K550, z520, z550, z710, z610, z750, T650i, S500, etc) yet hardly ANYTHING in the Cybershot/Camera focused lineup? K750 > K600 > K610 > K800/790 (K810 is nothing much more than a cosmetic shell to reassure the fans that they haven't forgotten about the Cybershot lineup - ONLY because the K850i was not out of the lab yet nothing solid on its design, direction yes but final design wasn't ready. K800 has been around almost 1.5yrs if not a few months MORE!
Why don't we have a Cybershot Slider phone yet?
Why don't we have a Cybershot with a Walkman player interface? The W810, W610 BOTH have autofocus so why not the other way around?
K850i can suffice for now; but I'm not buying until I see a FULL review of its media player abilities and hopefully multiple presets for equalizer.

I agree, sadly

The camera is the most used function on my phone, so I want to take good pics
