Look, one thing we all ought to be able to agree on, it's not Superman's suit that makes him strong or bullet proof. There are many examples where he has used his powers without his suit, including flying, bullet-proof, super strength etc.
His suit is also super strong, because it came from Krypton with baby superman. Martha sewed his baby rug into a superman outfit - which shows the baby rug was made from a woven fabric, since the sewing needle couldn't have penetrated the fabric otherwise.
So BOTH superman and his suit are bullet proof.

The suit is bullet proof because he has used it to protect Lois Lane and other people. But Superman is also bullet proof. He could let a bullet hit him between the eyes if he wanted to; it would just bounce off.
Superman is not human or even semi-human. He is Kryptonian, a race from the planet Krypton.
His powers don't come from his mind, they come from his physiology. Superman is from Krypton, a planet with a Red Giant sun. Any person who is born under a red sun, has superpowers when they come to Earth. That includes any Kryptonians who have come to earth, including Kara Zor-El (aka supergirl, superman's cousin)

Also, Krypton had much heavier gravity than earth, which also accounts for Superman's much stronger musculature. When exposed to Kryptonite, superman loses his powers. Kryptonite is a meterite that has come from the Planet Krypton (which exploded just after baby superman was sent to earth).
