@kyle:
if i want tech, i would rather move to japan, their techs are waaayy more advanced than any country in the world.
I agree!. but talking about USA, they may have more advanced technology in the field of military(trust me!) but we have wayy advanced tech, than them in terms of telecommunications. am i right?
Very Agree with that. US loves to invest on guns, radars, and more in it's military aspect but not on communications for example philippines now enjoy 3G and HSDPA networks while US are still EDGEs awayyyyy
I think it is not true. Americans like to use their own technology CDMA (EV-DO rev A) which can match with 3.5G speed. The CDMA carriers have provided EV-DO service for couple of years. In addition, the GSM carriers A&TT have provide the 3.5 G with 1900MHz now.
For me, I am using a pda phone. I think SE is not doing a good job on software support. SE uiq phone still don't have flash and yahoo mobile.

yes i agree with u i also think japan is the most advanced place 4 tech, not just with phones, i read somewhere that they get 100mbs on landline's, now that is really fast, they hve bravia branded screens which probably r also HD...so yeah they r the leading country 4 technology

I agree. In New Zealand the official

importer waits to see what models sell well overseas then presents them to Vodafone NZ (NZ's only GSM network provider) who either rejects them because the don't fit this weeks marketing strategy (W900i, K810i, S500/W580)

, or they put them through a time consuming Vodafone firmware process that takes months. For instance, SENZ only recently released the K610i in red and silver as the replacement for the V630i!
Personally, I suspect SonyEricsson NZ is operated out of the trunk of someone's car. They don't even manage thier own website.
One can buy a good selection of unlocked phones from an unofficial importer but they have poor service, no product knowledge and poor network compatibility.
The networks are all-powerful in NZ, I bet it's the same in the US.

Ok, maybe SE does not market to the US market and does not support it as well as the European one. But it doesn't take a genius to look at the american market and realize that SE are probably right in not trying here. Nokia started marketing their N Series in the US and what happened? Nothing. Big fat nothing. Are they selling more N Series phones now than before? Maybe barely. Stand out in a shopping mall and if out of 100 people you can give me 2 that have heard of the Nokia N Series, I'll buy you a drink.
Americans are not interested in a phone that's a candybar and is going to cost them anything more than $100 with a 2-year contract. Spending $500 for it with no contract is out of the question. Oh, and did I mention it needs to be a clamshell? Hell, even a clamshell can barely sell if it's over $100, unless it's been marketed like crazy (hint: Motorola V3).
Yes, there are few people in the States who will go out of their way and spend the extra dollar to get a nice phone, even if it means that it's an import. But those are the exception to the rule. Don't forget that due to the presence of CDMA the size of the audience that any foreign GSM manufacturer would market to, shrinks in half. Now deduct the fact that many people in the US are not even aware of the brand of their mobile phone (they think it's the name of the operator), let alone the other market channels through which you could purchase a new phone. What you're left is a tiny percentage of the population that is so diverse and spread out that marketing your european phones to them is a waste of time and money.
Oh, and also need I mention the magic circle of buying cheap (or many times even free) phones on contract and the mindset that creates in the general public. Compare that to the popularity of prepaid service in Europe and the kind of services you can use while on prepaid, and everything makes sense.
America (and more specifically the US) is a different monster. Americans think differently than most of the rest of the world. I'm not going to get on the political side of things, but there are many complex reasons why SE is underperforming in the US - many of them have nothing to do with SE and many of them have nothing to do with the wireless market in general.

Se launches only low/mid end phones in the US.
Bad advertising and poor custumor service.
And does Se really think things are going to become better?
Sony is losing its name in the US (due to PS3, iphone, strong competition).
And Se is losing its fans overhere in Europe and Asia, because they aren't giving us much. Like mister Eldar said in his review of the W960i, Se is no longer Se, other brands are becomming what SE once was.
This is what happens when you but S incharge, you lose all the values of Sweden knowhow and thinking.

Much as in what ?
Nokias last report showed that only 10% of sold phones were N and E i.e. "feature" rich phones. In fact, the biggest growth was among simpler and cheaper phones (also reflected by the drop of ASP from 90 to 82 EUR).

nokia is growing strong in emerging country's. people in europe tend to buy cheaper nokias. some people only use the phone for calling and texting, others have had bad experience with expencive phones and are sticking with cheaper ones. As years pass by low end phones get more functions, some people are happing with going the slow way.
in the early days of SE they were the brand that kept the industrie moving ahead. they kept people intrested.
Its the Ericsson T68m that started it all. no phone will ever change the history like that phone did.
with high end phones and inovation products you keep things intresting, for freaks, pioneers, fans and gadget hunters. they will also convince many people to buy a surtain brand, thats how SE grew so much, their low end phones where bad, the lack quality, the phones made by Arima are awfull, but still the fans and others advised people to buy them.
If SE lose that group then the sales will go down.
If that new CEO doesn't turn a magic rabit out of his head, SE's sales volume might go down slightly at the in the 2nd half of 2008.

Let's jus HOPE they come up with something mindblowing in 2008.
Maybe they will.
Maybe 2007 was scheduled as an "expand-low-to-mid-range-handset-market-share" and 2008 - "high-end-is-a-go-go"!
