No, it was designed by Sony Ericsson. HTC built it. So Sony Ericsson can be proud of their X1 because all HTC did was add their expertise in building a functional WM device.

OK, Kudos to Sony Ericsson for designing it.
As for HTC building it, surely that still eats into

's margins?

Yeah I'd say it would. But SE will be charging a high price for the "premium materials" so they'll probably still make as much as they make from any other mid-high end phone in their range.

According to Expansys they're charging £584.99 inc. VAT for the X1, so I can see your point there.

they have A2 platform which is not bad for 'normal' phones, they also can use Symbian/WM/other system in next devices. next system is bad idea IMO
We know that it is possible to add touchscreen in A1 platform - Z555. Now we have to see A2 with touchscreen ( we should wait it in the G-series - G*** )

IMHO
To make a high-end device, you have to have a high-end OS to run on it. Right now it's WM. It doesn't get more powerful than that. And no company can whip something together, on the scale of WM, in a few months. So any high(est)-end device from SE will be WM based. Even the iPhone OS (which was derived from MacOS) doesn't compete with WM on features. Obviously UIQ, A200 or S60, while they certainly make for useful devices, can't compete with the features WM brings to a phone.
So I think, any device without WM in it (from SE) will not be considered a high-end device.

You are not right. Symbian is not so bad. Sony Ericsson can continue developing it to make it more poverfull. But first SE has to move from 9.1 to 9.4 or the future 9.5, because 9.1 is very old and already not powerfull enought. G900 is not high-end phone. The phone should look like P1 or M600.

You say I'm not right then explain how Symbian needs to get more powerful...that's a contradiction.
