Fanboy fight !!!!

..

..

..

Seriously though, each to their own. If you like the 3650 - great... I'm happy for you. If you like the P800 - super, that's cool... but WHY do you feel the need to argue that one is better than the other???

Personally... let me say that again just to make sure you all heard me, PERSONALLY I don't like the look of the 3650, wild and whacky designs don't push my buttons so "I" (there's that good 'ole personally thing again) wouldn't buy one, my pal has the 7650 and it's a great phone, the camera is cool (though still a gimmick), the one handed usability is fabulous, they've done a really great job, but only 3.6mb of RAM and no expansion slot? That ruled it out for me.

I wanted a device that was 75% PDA and 25% phone... I used to carry a 9210 for crying out loud so that should tell you I like my toys on the geek side of "slightly geeky" ... the Sony Ericsson P800 is "my" type of device, if it's not yours - that's fine, we're all different.

Now everyone return to whatever it was they were doing before whether it was having a sensible debate or lurking under a bridge out of the daylight - turning to stone is a nasty thing.

@ jplacson :

The 3650 and 7650 can both multitask. As they are running Symbian, they can both do all the things you mentioned in your post.

The only thing I cant be sure of is how many fps the FULL version of Doom will run at on a 3650.

@ fishd1 :

The P800 is no more PDA than the 3650/7650. Except for the touchscreen. The 3650 has an edge in that it allows you to have anniversaries and vibrating alerts for calendar alarms which the P800 apparently doesnt. Personally, I find the contact management side of Series 60 very complete, can't comment on P800. I agree with you about personal preference tho - hate the look of the 3650, just can't find anything about the P800 that justifies its reputation. Personally, I'm going to wait for the A835 or Z1010 on 3.

How about word, excel, powerpoint and PDF-readers for e-mail attachment(as P800 has). Quite important for a PDA -isn't it?

Good god! The 6100 isn't anywhere CLOSE to the class of the 7650, 3650, P800 and 9210. The 6100 is a TOY!

Having twice the MHz does not mean twice the power, only twice the potential. If it has twice the MHz, but is also forced to process twice as much data, the net result is little to no speed improvement.

Same thing goes for internal RAM. A Pocket PC with 32mb of RAM stores about the same number of contacts as a Palm with 16mb of RAM, again because the size of each contact on the Pocket PC platform is larger than that of the Palm. Does that mean one is "better" than the other? No, just different.

Each contact uses more space probably because the pocket pc stores more per contact...
The nokia leaves 3,4 mb of memory available for the user while the p800 leaves 7-9 Mb available.

Now the standard applications on each phone have been designed with each phones memory limit in mind so they will of course run fine on both phones(This of course leads to the fact that the p800 apps are more advanced).
Same goes for Mhz.
What you are saying is that a luxurt boat with a 200Hp engine capable of doing 20 knots is no better than a cheap and small boat with a 100Hp engine because it can also do 20 knots...
They may be just as fast. But the time it takes the luxury boat to get from a to b can be spent in a swimming pool drinking a cold beer while in the cheap and small boat the you have to sit on cheap plastic seats drinking warm beer.
You get my point...

Plus: When porting games/apps from pc the screen res(320x208) is fairly similar to the good old 320x240 res that most games ran in the days of doom and the like. And the touch screen allows for a virtual keyboard(since many pc games used more than 9 buttons).
The Mhz will also be quite important when porting pc games....

Ok, so the context of this whole thread kind of changed a bit. My original intent was to correct some errors this site was displaying about the phone. When someone pulled up a comparison of the P800 and the 3650, some of the data points on that comparison were questionable or outright inaccurate. I had no intention of starting a fanboi fight.

To be perfectly honest, the two phones (P800 and 3650) really do target two different consumer groups and markets. Granted they both fall under the meta-group of "People who buy expensive cell phones", after that the phones are actually quite different. One of the more recent posters said it best: the P800 is more of a 75% PDA/25% phone solution, whereas the 3650 is more of a 25% PDA/75% phone solution.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: does that make one better than another? That's like comparing Apples to Oranges. They are both fruit, and both good for you, but that's where (at least most of) the similarities end.

We could go on for DAYS comparing features: Stereo vs. Mono, single color vs. Xpress-covers, PRICE vs. Price, Processor speed, available RAM, etc. The reality is they serve two different functions.

For a PDA, I already have the HP/CPQ iPAQ 5450, so I've already got a top-end superb PDA; now I wanted a cool phone, and the 3650 is it. As nice as the P800 (and even Nokia 9290) PDA functions are, they do not come close to a real PDA (PocketPC or PalmOS) -*- IN MY OPINION -*-. For what I do with it, how I use it, and what I need from it, the P800 as a PDA would not fill my needs (nor do the MS-based SmartPhones). So as long as I am going to have 2 devices (whether I like it or not), I might as well get the two that make the most sense for me.

The P800 may have more PDA functions and touch screen etc..., but it costs a hell of a lot more!
The 3650, which is much cheaper, has most of the same stuff (some even better).
You're paying a lot more, for very little extra in the P800.
But you're paying for good design and a quality product all the same.

re: processing speed

a faster processor on a different platform doesn't mean faster processing. take a pocket pc for example, a 400mhz intel xscale processor on pocketpc 2002 os runs slower than the older 206mhz intel strong arm since it is not optimized.
