Don't you think that France threatening to VETO any form of military action was a bit daft and in some respects increased the likelyhood of the US/UK/others to just go for military option instead of continuing with UN discussions?

That might be true. But on the other hand this doesn't justify taking matters in your own hands. And the reason of the veto threat from France are probably due to the arrogant Bush attitude. Bush is actually the worst president the US had for quite some time. His diplomacy skills seems to be on the level of a 5-year old. He has done nothing but going against the international community. The Kyoto treaty, the international war tribunal discussion (where he demanded immunity for American soldiers, which is just sick), and now he ignores the UN.

Well, all I can say is that the Bush family better get it right this time! Bush junior has a lot of his daddys failings to make up for but I highly doubt they will get Saddam. He will already be out of the country by now, either that or in some hidden underground bunker outside of the city somewhere

As usual it will be up to the SAS to get the job done right! And they dont kill their own people!!!

I agree with ppcrocker - "the international war tribunal discussion (where he demanded immunity for American soldiers, which is just sick), and now he ignores the UN - this was absolutely disgusting and shows how the American administration flounts International laws."

Bush is a typical arrogant American trying to make up for what he lacks in size! And all he wants is the oil! Oh and the credit (IF they find chemical weapons)!

Z.

@ppcrockar

Added some extra above.

Must agree, I dont like/trust Bush & don't think we would be at this stage if Clinton was still president.

But, if a people do not have the power to get rid of a tyrant themselves should we just accept the murder, torture & rape of people in the 21st centuary?

Yes the timing may not be ideal or appropriate but how long should you wait? In my opinion if anybody is so inhuman as to do this to their own people then the world has a duty to get rid of them as soon as possible, not wait until it becomes headline news or it becomes a few hundred thousand deaths instead of hundreds.

How many people had to die in the Killing Fields befor the world tackled that issue? Do we wait for more than a million to be slaughtered to end the talking and take action.

Difficult issue & I must admit which side of the line you agree with is difficult

POLITICS! POLITICS!POLITICS!
We Americans don`t no shit about the life of Iraqi people in Iraq.
Ask an Iraqi Immigrant here and US and most of them are favor of liberating their country by USA. 35 years under DICTATORIAL GOVERNMENT by SADDAM (does this one doesn`t give you a clue?)
We don`t know shit about the terror iraqi people have experienced under Saddam. All we know is to play with our high tech Nokia and Sony Erricson phones while Iraqi people are being massacre under closed Iraqi regime.
BTW Gulf War did not end 12 years ago it was just held up due to Saddam PROMISED to disarm- US believed and trusted the UN to take care of it,but Saddam played cat&mouse witH UN inspector -12 years passed by? I think 12 years are enough for dimplomacy--- Americans are not DAMN ASS to play with this GUY ---UN failed USA to carry out the disarming of SADDAM- and now they are asking for another 4 months? what diff. does it make- IT only shows that UN is incapable...We Americans are educated , we are not DUMB, ARE YOU ?

Here in Sweden we have lots of Iraqi immigrants. I have a couple of Iraqi friends and they welcome a solution for their 35 years of horror, the hunting down of politically active, rapings of women just as a varning, the thousands that have been taken away and never heard of, tortures, murders.
"We just want to live in peace, and to achieve that we have to have this war against Saddam, our people can't do it themself that's why I welcome US and UK." These are the exact words of a very good friend of mine, a Iraqi lawyer who has been living in Sweden since 1985.

Me, I'm not sure what to think. War is never a good thing, but neither is 35 years of horror and terror.

At last some reasonable arguments! (last few posts)

The one thing that ignorant people are missing is that this has been going on for the last 12 years. I agree with no_signal, 12 years is long enough for diplomacy.
Also you people are forgetting that resolution 1441 (i think) had unanimous backing from the UN which said that if Saddam cannot 100% prove that he has dissarmed then Force would be used.
The french are just cheese eating surrender monkeys (quote:simpsons).

enjoy 'homeboys' (quote:cynax7 = tit).

Whether Bush and Blair attack Iraq or not, innocent Iraqi people are going to suffer because they are already suffering. However if Saddam's government is overthrown, which is an aim of the war, many many people will stop suffering under him.

The number that might die in a conflict is no where near to the number who have died and suffered, and will continue to do so under his government, unless something is done.

Very well said Froddan

Lets forget the politics and just remember that we are trying to help a country of people to live FREE lives without fear and the people of some countries are prepared to risk their lives to help others. Unless all the info we hear is fabricated/bullshit, most iraq's want to be free from Saddam.

Unfortunately, talking cannot solve all the problems of the world. Does anybody really believe that if there was no threat to Saddam he would just change his ways! I think not.

@ psikey

I agree!

@cynax7

Was it necessary to use the word 'homeboy' quite so much in your epic post?
