My very first phone was an Ericsson. Can't remember the model name now, but I got it in 1993. (!)
I've always wanted the T39 and later T68, but due to mobile phone import restrictions in my country and failure to crack Ericsson's IMEI encryption properly I could never afford to get them.
Now I have a T300.

My first phone was a GA628 thing which was a present. Later he to,ld me that when he bought it it was a toss up between that or some Nokia - Im so pleased he made the right choice
Im very brand loyal so Ive never owned anything else like Nokia. Ive owned the following:
GA628
T18
T20s
T39m
T68i
P800
The T39m was the best phone I ever owned and prob still is. I used it the other day when i went out because of its size compared to my P800 - oh and that iw as worried Id get drunk and loose my P800 :-0

I dont know why but when it was ericsson- I didn't even want to use any of their handsets. I guess it was all of my friends that had 'baby ericsson' minus flips that told me to stay away from them. So i stuck with trusty sony after all they had made my wicked hifi and one of the ancient VCRs in the house and got a Z5- which was brilliant. When T68 came out it had the same continental feel that i didn't like- but somebody said to me that t68i was 1/2 made by sony (how wrong!) so i got t68i as an upgrade- and waas pleasantly surprised. But it seemed so unrelated to z5 apart from the clean appearance. so i did some research and found out that it was totally ericsson underneath.... impressive.
Now got t610 and dont even look at other brands. I like the sony feel to the t610 in that the menus are really polished and it complements my minidisc with the metallic look.

Nokia pissed me off when they introduced the 8310, it was a total piece of crap for the money, i took it straight back, paid the extra for a t68m, then realised i had THE latest technology for the right price, The t68 was the technology of the DAY, Nokia's were just rehashed out of date crap.
The positive mood a good phone can put you in, can easily earn you the extra price it costs you.

I fell in love with t68. But i got a t68i. From there on, i never patronize other mobile phones. My answer to your second question is, my very first mobile fone is a motorola startac.

Long story.
I have actually been a nokia kinda guy. But started of with an alcatel, and upgraded to a 3210 which I changed to an a2618 after awhile. That was my first ericsson experience, and not to good to put it in a nice way.
So I went back to Nokia, and had some of their top models, before I in january this year changed to a SE t68i. Had that until now, and bougth a p800.
I pick SE because of the quality, this community and for everything that is invented into their phones. Hell, p800 is the best electronic equipment that has been put out on the market lately!

first Ericsson was the EH 237 analog handset.
bought it as it was small yet practical for its time and very robust...still got one in a drawer somewhere.
