there is also another alternative as to what happened... the person who stole the phone from the original owner sold it for a quick buck whilst it still works, and now you cant find them cuz your'e a sucker!!! hence thats why it is important to buy one from a business as opposed to an individual. Heck you can buy one directly from SE "Unlocked" with a global warranty for $449 US. Is it really that bad???

@prodjsxb

considering i payed around $200 you might say you would be ripped off buying one direct from sony ericcson. The block i met in the pub gave me a good deal and 5 months on i am still a proud owner of a p800.

The blacklisting of stolen mobiles is done in a database in Ireland that all operators that are connected to this protection agains stolen phones check if the phone is blacklisted or not.
Some operators are not connected to this database (middle east, some african operators and (lol) alla Irish operators!) and in their networks your phone will work...
All operators with any sense of responsibility are connected tho!

Have you done anything about it yet? If you do contact Orange let us know what they say. Or if you 'contact' the guy who sold you the phone, let us know what he 'says'.

18 September - My 19th Birthday TODAY!!

Anyway...
I phoned the guy's home number that he gave me when i bought the phone off him. He was not in - his brother was. I asked when the guy would be back home and he said in about 8 months!! So i though yeah, yeah - here we go. So I explained the problem I had. The guy (the guy i bought it off's brother) was really understanding and said it mustve been his fault coz he has recently cancelled the contract as he was paying loads for his brother's phone. He said he hadnt realised the phone had been sold. So he nicely phoned up Orange and they removed the phone from the blacklist - it worked on the orange netwrok instantly after he called them! I was very suprised - the guy was actually genuine.

Now I have new problems:
The P800 works on the Orange network only! I'm using vodafone as my provider and the handset will not work (the phone is unlocked BTW). So... I phoned vodafone up and they havent got a clue y it isnt working. My phone registers on their network, plus they can see that the handset is no longer blacklisted but yet they dunno y it still isnt working. Firkin useless!! They said to try calling orange to blacklist it again, then unblacklist it again and then to not use the handset for 48hrs! Another guy mentioned something about asking Orange for the PAC (phone access code) or something?

So I think its been saved - at least it now works on the Orange network.

Can anyone shed any light on what the problem I now have is about? Gonna try ringin orange now see what they say.

BTW - i bought the phone for £200 - which was a bargain! Especially for 4 months ago. But now of course I'm doubting the bargian-ess of it!!

Thanks for all your replies! - Keep 'em coming.
