> P800 owners strike back at Sony!!!
Bookmark topic
I agree with points made by Vlammetje.
I own a P800 myself and have owned it for only 7 months. Now I would like a P900, I wouldn't refuse if someone offered to swap their P900 for my P800 but at the end of the day, I bought a P800 with the hardware and software 'as is'.
Now I always thought that SEMC didn't bring out enough products to compete with the likes of Nokia who tend to flood the handset market with their models. I think if you were to walk into a phone shop and randomly buy a phone, you've got 1/3 chance of getting a Nokia but only 1/6 chance of getting an SE phone (not exactly figures, but it illustrates my point). Now SEMC are releasing more phones, people are complaining now...
Now look at who is making money, Nokia. Now look at Nokia's phones, 9210 and 9210i, 7250 and 7250i are two very good examples of how Nokia make lots of profit while SEMC tend to lag behind in the cash ratings. The 'i' versions are improved, hardware and/or software. Hardware costs money, and software costs money, as some engineer has to sit there and do some work, it doesn't just magically appear out of the air. If you are a SE phone supporter, you should be very thankful that T68 users were allowed to upgrade the software to the T68i version. I don't recall Nokia having any upgrade path which allowed a user to upgrade his phone to another model's software version!
Phones are phones, in Japan there is a 6 month shelf life on average. If you want new technology fast, if you want great features like all the multimedia we get on our P800/P900s, then you shouldn't complain that SEMC release phones with new technology quicker than you personally want them to.

I tried to stop this silly thread at the beginning, but my powers just weren't enough I see!
The issue is really simple people;
SE do not owe P800 owners anything. We bought the phone and it has served us well. She's a grand old lady now and quite frankly its naive to think that SE will continue pouring money into an old and outdated phone (its not outdate dyet, but it will be one day). It is also naive to think that an online petition will make a blind bit of difference to SE.
As has been said before, SE are not required to upgrade our P800s, that mentality is just ludicrous. I won't repeat the many analogies already made, suffice to say I agree with them.
It is almost like a whinging mentality more typical of a small child, "He has something better than me, I want one of those!". This may sound elitist and snobby, but frankly my dear I don't give a damn, if you can't afford to buy a P800/900 then tough luck. They are expensive phones and if you are someone who likes to keep up with thechnology then they are one of the more expensive items to keep renewing, either buy one of them and stop moaning about what it can't do and enjoy what it can do.
If people are so desperate for the funcionality of a P900 then go and buy one, if you can't afford it then make do with a P800. Either way, stop clogging up the Internet with useless petitions that mean bugger all to nobody and only serve to massage bruised egos.

I hate to sound all preachy, but a number of people here need a severe lesson in netiquette.
Stop clogging the net??? Are you for real???
Now its stuff like this that really annoys me.
Why is it that people feel that just because they can justify their point of view, it means that its the ONLY justifiable point of view there is?
You know what makes the world better? Its when people stand up and say 'this isn't right and this isn't fair'. It doesn't matter whether we expect it to or not. If things COULD be better, then perhaps we should ATTEMPT to make them better instead of being so quick to shoot down the first voice that cries out in the wilderness (not even MY voice in this case).
@The rest of you geniuses out there: Upon all of your pompous posturing and self-aggrandizing "Why this petition will not work" postings; I can bet that if it DOES work, you'd be the first in line to reap the benefits of it. Be honest!
You don't have to agree to any proposals here...and heck, you don't even have to like it, but for goodness sakes, stop being so quick to shoot a person down all the time.
I said it before and I'll say it again: The people petitioning have a salient point. No matter how "pointless" that might be to anyone else. So don't support them if you don't want to, but does it mean your alternatives are to jeer??? Geez!!!
Oh...and if you don't want to read a post, guess what???
You have the option of actually NOT reading it.
Imagine that!!!
Just remember...If you're trying so hard to prove your intellect by knocking on someone else's, chances are, you've still got a lot to learn.

I've stopped laughing now so I'll respond. You can say and do whatever you like on the Internet and fair play to you if you really believe that an online petition will change SE's mind, perhaps it will, although I severely doubt that.
To correct you I am not preaching I am giving you a taste of reality sonny boy (good use of that phrase there me thinks). As I said in my last post the P800 is a P800, if you want the functionality of a P900 then go buy one and stop monaing about how terrible it is to be stuck with a P800 the way it was intended!
I for one like my P800 and quite frankly I don't want a P900 or my P800 to look like a P900. Others might agree with me or they might not, either way I don't care. Your obviously the sort of person who writes letters to their local newspaper in an effort to save a local bus stop from closure or who organises campaigns to save endangered species of bacteria.
Aside from the numerous technical problems your idea is frought with (as have been discussed at length on this forum) it is a case of time wasting do-gooderism. Get off your soapbox, pack away your anorak and get on with things. SE don't owe you diddly squat and quite frankly you would be better off trying to save that bus stop!

Wow, Scotsboy....That was really thrilling!!!
'Sonny Boy' is actually flattering since I have seen 3 decades on this earth. Unfortunately, its clearly obvious that you are much wiser than me, so I'll have to defer to your wealth of knowledge and experience.
But first, let me thank you for showing us all how totally shallow and myopic an individual can be, once he sets whatever it is that passes for his mind to it.
'Do-Gooder'? 'Soapbox'? These are all meant to be insulting???
Congratulations on having such a sophisticated and cynical view of the world. I'm sure you've cornered the market on these rare gems.
Perhaps you may want to give us your views on wiping out the "poor" and "needy" with Napalm and Semtex, eh?

Oh dear I see you are no stranger to a good moan, which can be fun, but in your case is just annoying. You might not agree with my point, but to be quite frank you do a damned lousy job of sticking up for your own point, I would have a hell of a lot more respect for you and your campaign then. Perhaps you aren't familiar with the concept of people not agreeing with you? Oh well, ho hum.
You strike me as an individual who has bought an expensive phone, probably after having worked hard to get it, but now finds that it is superseded (in some respects) by a newer, sexier and improved phone and thinks it terribley unfair. You rail against those terrible people at SE for not doing more to support people who own a P800 because basicaly you are feeling somewhat gutted at having shelled out for what was the best phone on the market. Furthmore you are perhaps unable or unwilling to upgrade to the P900, so instead of just enjoying what is a very good phone (the P800) you decide to moan. Then when people like myself come along and tell you to stop whinging you get defensive and moan that you are put upon and that the nasty man with the 'shallow' and 'cynical' attitude is making trouble for you and that he doesn't like the petition you are harping on about.
Get acustomed to the fact that major companies don't give a flying f**k for customer who own 'old' products despite all their sunshine and happiness that they do, they are interested in sales and market share. SE aren't stupid, they aren't going to waste a packet on implementing something, which quite frankly is diffficult to do and really not all that necessary. Your one of these people who thinks everyone else owes them something, get over yourself and stop fannying about. You have a damned good phone, go and enjoy it, bluejack someone with it, phone a friend or play a game on it. Enjoy it as it is.
On a serious note, I do apologise for any offensive comments I have made towards you, really I do, I'm not being sarcastic when I say that, but really you must realise the point I (and many others) are making isn't about 'converting' anyone to our 'beliefs' its just stating reality. You would be much better enjoying your phone and stop wasting your time with this, it is highly unlikely to happen (this is the point at which SE announce that it will happen and I look a fool (the joke about me already looking a fool could be made here, but would be a tad predictable)).
P.S. Thank you for admitting that I am wiser than yourself. I really never tire of hearing that

You know what?
You're right!
You're absolutely right and therefore I apologize.
I apologize to the entire family of Esatoans for taking up your valuable time with these trivial pursuits.
I also apologize to you too, Scotsboy, because you cannot help coming off as sounding like a socially inept, egotistic reprobate. I guess its just your nature, or sum'n. LOL
So you win!!!
On a serious note: You should have paid more attention to the earlier postings. I no longer have my P800 and I will be buying a p900.
If I wanted to, could I afford to own both??? Dude, you have NO IDEA!!!
But as a "do-gooder", I can't help but hope other people get a fair shake. A lot of people aren't as fortunate as we are and I suppose I'm just one of those folks that roots for the underdog in most situations.
My first professor in grad school once told me that I'm a natural-born "Uprising Instigator" (I think she meant it as a compliment).
Okay...that's my 2 cents.
I'm gonna go do some Katas, or something.

...phones are updated all the time. Why bother complaining about that? Sure, I would like to upgrade from a T68i to a T610, but why should I get that for free? If you want the latest all the time, I believe you will need to pay for it.
However, if it is a simple task to upgrade the operating system, of course that is good, but don't expect too much!
BR!

You are what is known in this country as a slaphead my lad, an analy retentive slaphead. Its a sad thing to see so many of you on the Net. Without being as vulgar as to discuss money I will make the point that it doesn't matter if you can afford anything you want, your still a moaner who seeks to bore people to death with complaining about a product. What makes it even worse is that you ARE buying a P900. Really the issue has bugger all to do with you, but of course being self-reighteous you march ever onwards determined to 'do the right thing'.
Get a grip of yourself and stop acting like an ass. I did offer you an apology, but you are obviously so far up your own arse that you have trouble realising when someone is offerring you an olive branch. I am not surprised you have encountered opinions like my own from other forum members with regards to the validity of this petition you are advocating. Stop being so pompous and treating other's lack of interest and dislike for this petition as being a great offence against you. If importance were petrol then this petition wouldn't have enough to power an ant's motorbike around the outside of a penny!
Wheeee this is fun!
P.S. Although I am enjoying this repartee I feel that perhaps your answers would benefit from some witty remarks and maybe the occasional pun. This genuinely isn't me being mean (seriously), I just hope to make this litle fencing match a little more interesting. For my part I will try to cut the length of my posts as perhaps this is somewhat awkward to read (starting with the next one).
